Icon Starting out... Space Marine's 1,500 Pts? (EDITED)

I have been looking at putting together about a 1500 Pt. Army of Space Marine's.
Trying to keep my cost's around $400.00.

So this is what I have so far:

Here are a few items that I think are up to adding in to the cost: (Don't have Codex or a New rulebook.)
(These don't have the tax done for them.)
  • 1x Space Marine Chaplain with Skull Helmet $15.00

Paint and set's: (Also I don't own any paint right now.)
  1. 1x Hobby Starter Set $45.00
  2. 2x Sunburst Yellow $7.00
  3. 2x Chaos Black $7.00
  4. 2x Boltgun Metal $7.00
  5. 2x Shining Gold $7.00
Total: $73.00

Option 1:
  1. 1x Assault On Black Reach box set $60.00
  2. 1x Space Marine Battleforce box set $90.00
  3. 1x Space Marine Devastator Squad $35.00
  4. 1x Space Marine Vindicator or 1x Space Marine Predator (same price) $40.00
  5. 1x Codex: Space Marines $35.00
Total: $260.00
With Paint: $333.00

Option 2:
  1. 1X Space Marine Strike Force $240.00
  2. 1x Warhammer 40,000 Templates $8.00
  3. 1x Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook $50.00
  4. 1x Codex: Space Marines $35.00
Total: $333.00
With Paint: $406.00

Option 3:
  1. 1x Assault On Black Reach box set $60.00
  2. 2x Space Marine Battleforce box set at $90.00 each
  3. 1x Codex: Space Marines $35.00
Total: $275.00
With Paint: $348.00

Whizzwang Option 1:
  1. 1x Assault On Black Reach box set $60.00
  2. 1x Space Marine Battleforce box set at $90.00
  3. 1x Codex: Space Marines $35.00
Total: $185.00
With Paint: $258

Whizzwang Option 2:
  1. 1x Assault On Black Reach box set $60.00
  2. 1X Space Marine Strike Force $240.00
  3. 1x Codex: Space Marines $35.00
Total: $335.00
With Paint: $408.00

Davespil Option:
  1. 1x Assault On Black Reach box set $60.00
  2. 1X Dark Angels Ravenwing Battleforce $90.00
  3. 1x Space Marine Razorback $35.00
  4. 1x Codex: Space Marines $35.00
Total: $220.00
With Paint: $293.00

Its mostly revolves around what tactics am going to have to use.
So I need some help figuring this out for each so I can chose what option I should go with.

Any help or thoughts will be muchly appreciated.

I would start with Assault on black Reach, Codex Space Marines and the Battleforce- that'll give you the rulebook, templates (and a couple of dice).
That'll get you a captain, 2.5 marine units, scouts, termies, assault marines, a rhino and a dreadnaught... a nice start to an army at about 1100pts.

After that I would probably go for a vindicator, more troops and 1-2 more rhinos/razorbacks.

I have no idea of the cost of that in $ but it'll be about the cheapest way to get all that

with your budget I'd go with

AoBR
Battleforce
Codex
Hobby starter set + citadel paint set (the one with blood red, goblin green, ultramarine blue etc) + the wash set

bear in mind that any option you have that includes the AoBR box means you don't have to buy a rulebook

Job's a good'un

personally i'd puch the boat out and go for

AoBR
Strikeforce
Codex
+ loads o' paint

When you say "+ loads o' paint", how much do you think I will need to paint the 2nd opt.?

The Citadel paints are all water based, so what you need to do is find a spair piece of cardboard or a tile or something to make a pallet and take the paint out of the pot with a standard brush and add a drop or two of water to it.

This extends the life of your paint pots. So you should be able to get away with just one pot of each color you want your marines to be.

Its a relatively well known fact, but if you didn't know, now you do.

Get a buddy or someone that needs orks and each of you buy a AoBR set. Trade your orks for his Marines. Worth the money and effort to find someone to trade with you. Also, if you want fast attack, get a Ravenwing box set. $90 for 6 bikes, 1 attack bike, and 1 landspeeder. All that for the price of 6 bikes. And you will get a lot of bits including all the bits to upgrade the landspeeder into all its variants. If you want a rhino, get a razorback instead for $5 more and you can just pop the turret off and you got rhino, put it back on and you got a razorback. The best bang for your buck is Marines from AoBR though. Ebay some squads if you have to. Don't buy the paint sets, just buy the colors you need. You don't need 8 different washes, just one or two. Just find out what colors your chapter needs and buy them, boltgun metal, blood red, black, and gold.

Have guns, will travel...

My next army is going to be a Ork one (then Tau) so itís not that good for me trade or sell them away. lol Took your paint advice and put that in at the top. Also I am try to decide on ether Badab Black or Devlan Mud wash but I donít know what it will turn out for color.
