I'm sitting at about 1000 or so points right now. Spent around $200 US...I shop around

That isnt counting paints, and tools,I still need to order that

I tend to splurge a huge wadge of cash...then wish I hadn't bought so much in 1 hit.

I've started copying me friend who buys and paints a squad at a time. Once that's done, he buys another squad.

It's a good way of keeping your sanity, but for bigger discounts you need to make a single big purchase.

With the way mail is out here in iraq I just made a big purchase, that way I can keep working on them without having to wait 1 month between squads

I am all in like a starving bear at a honey sellers convention, I buy masses of stuff all in one go then get busy with bluetac. I have endless models sat waiting to be assembled and painted, the whole thing is like a drug to me!

when I start an army I will usually spend about $250 this is usually to get the codex and either 2 battleforce boxes or a battle force and any other awesome looking model.

If a child asks how Santa lives forever, simply reply he drinks blood.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poke me in the ribs and cackle, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started to do the same thing to them at funerals.

Dropped about $400 in one go to start my Tau out, but that's with 5 tanks. Empire were cheaper, I probably got them up and running around $250. I generally try and go for the big boxes and have multiple viable armies to let people borrow for a game. Also, having a ton of models helps motivate me to paint faster instead of focusing too much on a single unit at a time. One day it might be fun to do a crazy high quality army, but for now quantity is where it's at.

Yeah the outlay for paints/tools was hard to swallow at first. However, as time goes on and you realize that you're STILL getting entertainment value out of the things and haven't dropped money on them in awhile, you'll start feeling better about it.

I usually try to start small and work my way up to a full force.

When I look over at the shelf and see squads apon squads that still need to be painted then I get discouraged and then find it hard to get the motivation to actually paint. So when I start an army it is usually like $80 that is Codex and my first box of whatever it is.

The latest army that I am starting is Orks so it has been pretty easy I just buy the Attack on Black Reach box and give the marines to my friend that is working on Marines . Though I now have enough of those models so now I have to start buying other boxes.

About 100 for the bare HQ and 2 troops including paints etc.
