Default New guy need some help

In advance i apologise if my English is not on the pont.

A friend and I want to get in the 40k miniature painting and wargaming. With our financial situation we are going with the "Know no fear" + "Citadel Essentials Set" + some other colors.
So few questions if someone has the knowledge and time.

1. Can someoen tell me how balanced the sides are in the box set?

2. Can we get a feel for the game in that set and play somewhat a normal game for fun?

3. He is geting the Space marines and besides the box set hes got 3 Primaris Space Marine Intercessors he got for fun some while back. Should i get aditional 3 Death Guard Plague Marines or 1-2 box of Death Guard Poxwalkers to even our the sides?

Thx for helping out a noobie :D

1. Decently, though not entirely.

2. Yep, go through the provided scenarios in order, they will teach you to play as they introduce new mechanics at a steady pace. I will note that given the relatively low number of units involved recovering from early setbacks is... difficult

3. He can just do without the 3 additional bodies ;) Though if you'd prefer to expand a little, I'd recommend going with the Plague Marines. That's mostly because slow moving Poxwalkers don't scale up as well as Marine shooting... At least without help. Things like Typhus or Psyker support can change the equation drastically.

Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and horrifying to know.

Thx for the info. Really helps :D
Will go with the expand route. Even if it not balanced decistion still seams more fun heheheh

The minis in the box are allready green/blue. Are they primed or do we need to get the sprays for primeing?

Not primed, GW just put some color in the plastic so you can tell the sides apart even without painting them - presumably for people who just want to play rather than paint.

Priming is good, though it doesn't necessarily have to be GW primer - about any primer spray that delivers a sufficiently thin layer (and thus preserves detail) will do.
