I would go choppy just because there are less power weapons than AP 2 or AP 3 (non blast) weapons. In either case take some TH & SS termies for tournies but I would take a unit of Vanguard against shooty armies and Sternguard against choppy armies.

That which doesn't kill me has made a tactical mistake.

Space Marines have now become much more shooty oriented to me. Especially with the normal SM loosing their CCW and just having a Pistol and Bolter. I personally believe that Sternguards are much better than the Vanguards for supporting the SMs. There are only a select few that can efficiently CC besides HQ, mostly within the Elites and Fast Attack. They are Assault Squads, Vanguards, and Terminators. There is nothing else beyond those 3 units. Terminators even got the new upgraded Cyclone Missiles, so now there might even be less CC Terminators to sport those cyclones.

Are you going for a fluffy army background? The first has many tyranid hunters so you could model them for cool points and just design your army to be flexible. I'd definitely vote shooty though.

Marine: I feel we need to widen our emotional spectrum.

Marine 2: Why?

Marine: I just want to do more than pray and be angry.

I'd say choppy just because I've seen more shooty stuff then choppy.

I'm not insane I just lack sanity, there's a difference....................somewhere

Choppy! Harder to drink the blood and take the skulls when you're hitting the enemy from 50 yards away!!... ah... I mean... uh... because the vast majority of Ultras I've been encountering have been ranged oriented and it's always nice to see a change... yeah... thats it!

i saw choppy, would make for a different SM list, while most players have a shooting army, you can charge up and kill them hand to hand

How ironic it is that as fast as we spread progress and hope throughout the galaxy, the Tyranids spread death and despair. Only united can we hope to stand against them.

I concur with the choppy. Since having a different set-up than the norm always draws people's attention.

If a child asks how Santa lives forever, simply reply he drinks blood.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poke me in the ribs and cackle, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started to do the same thing to them at funerals.
