Default Where to begin with Dark Angels...

Okay, quick disclaimer - I am aware that the Army List sub-forums are for lists only, hence why this is being put here. If it's still in the wrong place - scoot me over to wherever I need be!

Right.

Yesterday I was looking over the GW site. Curiosity made me take a look at the ol' DA and I saw the Interrogator Chaplain model. Long story short, it was love. It was like seeing Olivia Wilde for the first time again.

Okay. Story over.

If I were to begin a Dark Angels army, where & how is the best way to go?

I narrowed picking one of the 3 basic HQ strands down pretty fast. I'll be starting with a Chaplain.

Next I was looking at the Get Collecting Space Marines! box. As it'll give me 10 Tacs, a Venerable (who I'll magnetise - but it'll be Ass-can/Power fist to start), and a left over Terminator Captain who'll end up as a Belial conversion or something (as that model is....retarded). I also have a complete, yet unmade Rhino lying around.

This would give me a HQ, a Troop and an Elite choice to begin.

How would you guys flesh out from there?

Would you even start with these 2 purchases?

How do people load out Tactical Squads nowadays?

I'd love some insight, as payday was yesterday and a Wayland purchase is callinnnnnnnng to me.

I'll start by being honest with you:

I hate Greenwing.

To me, Dark Angels are all about their special snowflake status with Deathwing and Ravenwing. If I wanted to play tactical troops, I'd just run the Vanilla Codex, which has more tactical flexibility.

That said, I LOVE Ravenwing and Deathwing. An army around the two of them is amazing to me. Ravenwing has some amazing bikes, great fliers, impressive speeders, and Sammael was the 'I'm in Love' HQ for me. Jetbike with a plasma cannon? Yes please.

I'm rather enamored with the Chaplain in terminator armor myself. You can give him the Mace of Redemption along side your Crozius for some serious beatdown, or even give up the Crozius for Foe Smiter. He goes great in Deathwing Knights or a DW Command squad.
