Default Marneus, love or hate?

OKay guys im considering putting marneus calgar into my 1500 points army.
So i just wanted to know what u guys thought of him. I know hes extremely expensive, but do his abilitys make it worth it? His ap2 stormbolter? his 2 master crafted powerfists? His honour guard abilities?

So basically what im asking for is a constructive reply about if hes worth it, his weaknesses, his good points and maybe also about the model;whether you think it will be good centrepiece of my army.

thanks guys in advance im gonna go watch xfactor lol

I dont believe he has master crafted power fists, he only has two regular ones (I could be wrong)

Pros
4 Wounds
Eternal Warrior
Re-rolls to wounds
AP2 storm bolters
2+ Save 4+invuln

Cons
Point Cost
Does not benefit army

He is a great model.....almost too good in an honor guard, seeing as he has a meat shield . But the fact that he's a whopping 265 pts is not so great in a small game. I mean, he's fun! sure, but for a 65 pt difference you can snag lysander, which is almost as good. But if you wanna have fun with am onster of a model, take em, if you wanna get slightly more competetive, grab another HQ which benefits the army as a whole, more-so then just a self-centered CC beast :p. Vulkan, Shrike,Korsarro, all great choices that affect the army as a whole( for cheaper).

But it all boils down to preference, hope this helps.

well, seeing as i have an ultramarine army i think i wouldnt take the others as it doesnt fit in fluff terms. If he doesnt benefit the army his honour guard will;) am i right ins aying he cant take 3 10man squads of honour guard. The chapter banner in his honour guard will take will also help. Any other opinions?

calgar is good but save him for large battles say 2000pts+.

P.S. I would say lysander is better than calgar.

He can have 3 squads of Honor Guard, but only one of them can have the Chapter banner.

CommanderAnthor- Lysander is good because he has the Fist of Dorn, 4 wounds, Eternal Warrior, Bolter drill and Chapter Tactics that make your whole army Stubborn. And no, he doesn't have any ranged weaponry.

However, unless you footslog Lysander in a Terminator squad, then that's the best way to get the best out of Bolter Drill, instead, he should be teled in.

But you forgoe Bolter Drill, on all but 3-4 Terminators.

The fist of Dorn is like you said, Str 10 and +1 to damage rolls against vehicles. Eternal Warrior means he's immune to Instant Death and Bolter Drill allows the squad he's with to re-roll failed 'to hit' rolls with any Bolter weapons.

He does benefit the army. You get to choose whether to pass of fail all morale (possibly Ld) tests! That's pretty handy, especially since unless they've FAQ'd it that means they can auto-pass morale tests in combat without fear of no-retreat wounds. (Because they don't always auto-pass the test they choose what to do.)

I think Marneus was made rather ridiculous this time round. The addition of eternal warrior was the only one I thought was necessary to make sure he would swing those fists of his without risking getting squashed by someone elses. The reroll to wounds is just silly. (I am mighty so my bolter rounds are deadlier...)

The honour guard thing is nice but unless it's apocalypse I doubt of much use.

Lysander is just awful, even mentioning his name now leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. (And the new fluff!)
