Default Thoughts on Count-As models?

I'm just curious what people think of the idea. For instance...

I can't decide what would be better as a GK Dreadknight. The 'baby carrier's not bad, but compared to the beauty of the Crusader... and the company does make other weapons so I could flip out the assault cannon at some point for a weapon that looks more like an Incinerator.

I realize a Tournament will probably frown on using a non-GW model, but I'm mostly considering rule of cool and what looks good on my table.

Personally I have no problem with something like that - As long as the model is easily recognizable as the unit in question and the base size is the same, people can use whatever they want from my perspective.

Where it gets iffy is if you have 5 Tactical marines and you say that they are devastators with each their heavy weapon. You need some way to differentiate between the models so the opponent doesn't get confused on the gear on the model itself. I believe this is why most places say WYSIWYG for tournaments, so no mistakes are made due to the opponent not being informed on what they are up against.

I personally don't mind, so long as it actually fits in with the whole vibe.

They aren't the same size. The Crusader is a better counts as Imperial Knight than it is a DreadKnight.

^ Knights are way taller and broader. Sure the Crusader is bulkier but it's nowhere near that big.

Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.

There are TWO Leviathan Crusader kits. a 15mm, and a 28mm. The 15mm is in the picture on the opening post; it's 4" tall, so it's right up against the Dreadknight. The 28mm is much larger, taller than an Imperial Knight. It's actually the same height as the FW Cerastus knights.

Quite a lot of people use the 15mm Leviathan Crusader kit as a DreadKnight, yet it is much larger than a DreadKnight. It is wider, thicker, more massive.

Now that I know there's a second one that's as tall as a Cerastus were it my choice I would totally get that one and play it counts-as Knight (the weapon hands and shoulders really sell that idea). However since our lovely OP is talking about the smaller one, which despite it's thicker build is still far too small to be a counts-as Knight, I would support it as a counts-as for a Dreadknight provided it was played on the same size base. It being bulkier is only really a detriment to the player as it would be harder to hide behind LoS blocking terrain/get a cover save.

Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.
