Default Immortals or Deathmarks?

Both look good on paper but I have never used either, I bought a box and am leaning towards immortals with Tesla cannons.

I would like some opinions from you guys though.

I have both and I will always take deathmarks in every list I have. Generally with a desparitek so that they can move around much easier and with hunter from hyperspace the templet wounds on 2s too which is really nice. Necrons have trouble with low AP shooting and a lot of big monsters can only really be shot at by barges otherwise. Deathmarks allow you to marks them and therefore consistently wound them incredibly easily. Then I personally generally veil of darkness if there is enough space by the unit and dopr down in 12" so I can rapid fire and also use the template on them. That generaly wittles the unit down to a more manageable level, however they don't often survive much longer if that is the tactic you do decide to use. The smaller the game the better they are as they will mark a larger proportion of your army.

Immortals are effectively a tougher units of warriors, but you want them in units of 10 ideally and they will potentially be the unit that move up the field. I generally though use ghost arks as then my warriors can benefit from them.

Immortals are nice but I have found the squad of five I use just generally don't do enough to be worth the points especially when I can take a annihilation barge for 5 more points

Me: To be honest im amazed there isn't a chaos god of not revising or at least chaos god of procrastination

MidnightSun: There will be, when enough people do it. Y'know when the Eldar were all engaging in their hedonism and Slaanesh ripped open the Eye of Terror with his creation? Slaanesh will have NOTHING on the God of Procrastination, and his vile minions will carve the galaxy asunder in a thousand year reign of blood.... Tomorrow

Both are good to have around. The merit of Immortals over Warriors is being more survivable with stronger guns. They make a better escort for your Overlord than Warriors too. I've had a unit of 10 score 19 hits with Tesla before and even on bad rolls I'll get about 8 hits. But a deep striking unit of Deathmarks can make short work of even the heartiest units. I've dropped 10-man units of Terminaters in short order. I even got enough Rending shots to drop a Trygon once. Nothing like giving no saves.

Immortals should be your troops of choice. At least two strong squads of ten, buffed by lords with res orbs and if you can spare it, a cryptek with a lightning field and haywire staff. They will weather the storm of fire they take reasonably well and form an appealing target, both of which you can use to your advantage. Then you can field several additional units of necron warriors as a screen and support.

Regarding the choice of weapon, I prefer the gauss blasters simply for the AP factor. Marines aside, it's good to know most of my targets won't be getting saves from my immortals' fire. That said, there's not much negative to say about the merits of tesla either. It's up to you.

Deathmarks are also an excellent choice. I take a squad of five just to mark and damage/kill one unit that I otherwise don't want to have to deal with, typically a monster or small unit like dark reapers or command squads.

To be completely honest, it sounds atm like you're in more need of the deathmarks than the immortals but I think you should definitely be wanting both eventually.

I agree with Serpion, in that you should probably get both units eventually. I almost always run Tesla Immortals in my lists.

While I haven't run my Deathmarks in a while, they are still great units to have. I own 10 and I usually divide them into two units of five for more coverage. If you have the points, add the despair-tek to add that AP1 template into the mix, then transport via Deepstrike or Night-Scythe as you please.
