Default How many games before you won?

I have played 8 games now and the only win was a 1-0 squeaker at a tournament last weekend. I see, by the records in a lot of signatures that we have some amazing players with a ton of wins and few losses. How long was it before you found your groove? Each game I tweek my list based on what worked and what didn't, taking advice from you guys but just running a lot of "training missions". I'm interested in your experiences, I don't need a boost on confidence as I LOVE playing win or lose but sometimes you just want to win for a change!

my core group of gaming friends tends to play a lot of smaller games (like 1k points per player) that usually feature so everyone usually wins 1 in 3 games the better players might have between a 60-75% win percentage. However we do not run tournaments or go to many so big fish in a small pond.

When I first started it took me 9 games before my first win, and for the first 2 years after that my win rate was only about 30% (Mind you I barley played due to the local GW closing after my first year). However, my win rate started climbing in the years that followed, and now I sit at a 80% win rate.

I think i went 12 games without winning. Its all about getting to know the game like when to charge and when its best to shoot and when to disembark fromn your transport after that its just trying to get to know your army very well.

I have no idea what the answer is for me, but I do know a guy who literally never lost to anyone. Not once, not ever.

Like 15 back in 2nd edition into early 3rd edition...Think my win ratio was maybe W2 L20. lol
Then I stopped playing until late 5th edition...Think my win ratio since then is probably no more than .350 lol I would probably improve on that if I took more competitive lists but I am not a very good player in reality. I like winning and it sucks losing all the time but I am happy winning 1 in 3 or 4 games.

I think it was the third or fourth game for myself. Though it helped that several people started at that's same time.

I lost my first 5 matches or so, before i began winning anything. I started out playing with 5 of my friends, so we all learned the game at the same pace, which definitely helped.

Thinking back on it I lost some of those games primarily due to misunderstandings about rules. Then again, I probably won some because of the same thing

Well... I won my first game because we messed up rules (and it was like 10 marines against 20 gaunts or something ridiculous like that), and that was a common theme for the first few years. When we started going competitively, my older brother's nids always killed me. I could normally beat or tie my little brother and his Eldar, however. Now, me and my older brother are pretty much even, winning and losing based more on what list we take than our skill. I play Blood Angels (with occasional White Scars allies) and my brother plays Nids (he's still figuring out the new book), but I don't win most of my games in 40k. Probably about half.

If you go down to the woods today, be wary
