Default Thinking of a new race

im thinking of combining my 2 loves. Warhammer 40k and dragons.
i just need some ideas to get started on some rules and then hopefully when i get the money get some!

the first idea i had was based off gears of wars brumak.

just replace with a Winged/wingless dragon and put it in heavy support.

for troops there could be like smaller dragon swarms or humanesqe dragons.

i guess there could be a few Non-Dragon units in the army too.

i think i might be building them off Fantasy lizardmen. but the possibilaties are endless!

any ideas are highly needed!

Thanks alot

-Riandro

(P.S i dont know if this is the right forum for this, so if some-one could move if it is please?)

EDIT:

Okay after more thought into this i guess i will have some humans in here too, mages and sorcerors and the like. they are the ones that tamed the dragons im guessing.
also im thinking of an engineer, for the tech side of things.

the army is slightly primative in technology, use magic quite a bit and i think will be a general all rounder army, with one or two speacialist units.

I like the idea but I think it would be going too far. dragons as troops would be sexy but they are a rare species. What I would do is have a humanoid army with dragons instead of heavy support, a steed system like fantasy in it, transports that are designed like dragons but are still vehicles and maybe some elite style dragons then....
But seriously if you can pull it off then respect!!

If you shit in one hand and wish in the other we all know which one will fill up faster.

And as I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will have no fear For I am the scariest mother f*cker in that goddamned valley!

Damn nature, You Scary!!!

i know where your coming from, but im thinking that the bigger HS dragons are rare species, yes, but the humanoid dragons could have been breeding like rabbits from a far of galaxy for the past 30,000 years
i think they will be quite simple in technology, like normal plate armour and crap, like fantasy, but have magic runes on then to enhace them. also on the HS dragons im thinking of looted big guns and stapping then on to it, gives it more of the low tech feel.

as for humans, i guess they could have drawn in from the dragons greed for vast amounts of treasure collecting, so i could have like a few spell casters, to make up for the lack of shooting power.

im looking at the These and liking the ideas that come from then at the moment, what do you guys think?

If you want the big monsters,

you will be pretty safe going straight to the 40K Chaos Daemon Codex and thinking along the lines of using dragons to represent Greater Daemons, Daemon Princes and Soul Grinders.

A Daemon Prince is normally modelled as a big ugly walking bastard but there is no reason it couldn't be a dragon or big lizard! If you have smaller dragons these would be excellent proxis for "Fiends of Slaneesh" which are actually one of the best elite choices in a Chaos Daemon army.

You would be left with some problem about what to use for troops, but with some thought and looking about answers can be found. You can just use standard GW troops and if you paint them coherently and theme the army so that it makes sense, dragons will be great as big daemons!

Haha, true but then thers the satisfaction in making your own army... but counts as would be an alternative if you get stuck.

Honestly, just use 'nid rules for Dragons. With all the different bio-upgrades I think you could give them just about anything you want them to have.

honestly i think it might be pretty scary to face up against dragons, say you used dark eldar riding them into battle. screaming over the battlefield enslaving every human in giant cages would look kool and certinaly give you some conversion work. aswell as that you could maybe mount some lords of your dark eldar on tainted dragons which have been mutated. in contrast the use of dragons with eldar is great aswell maybe mounting a rider and then say weapons platform on them. you could even goes as far as using them with daemons as say juggernauts for daemon lords to ride on. altogether i would say its a great idea. but i wonder about the small dragon swarms and how you would create these models of course the bigger ones you can use the high elf plastic dragon kits from warhammer fantasy.

i plan to make rules for them when i get back later so i might post a few up, i dont plan to use then as proxies, but if it comes to it i guess it cant hurt to do so.

but im still gonna make them into thier own army!

yeah i guess they are a 40k version of lizard men

but anyway i plan to use warlord reptus models for the troops, and add a few humans that they have *ahem* drawn in.
im also eyeing up the macfarlane dragons,

look at the galleries.... now.

If you wanted the entire race to be Dragons [bar the human 'allies'] then I've got an idea:
For Troops you could have a smaller species of Dragon called Draconians. They would be primitive in technology like you're saying the army would be but still very good in combat, better than your average human.
