frankly, i will never buy another plastic boxed kit that is not at a steep discount and/or in a starter set. everything will be ebay, second hand, and/or from a hobbyist in trade or not at all.
gw changed, horribly.
man o' war was awesome, and expensive but awesome as not much was needed...
space hulk - awesome.
talisman - awesome. no, super-awesome.
the spaceship fleet level game for which i cannot remember the name, came out in the 90s and for which i still have the fleets that i had collected... somewhere, maybe ... awesome, and actually not expensive unless you wanted it to be.
metal figs - frankly, i love(d) them.
some plastics are cool, but they just don't feel weighty, substantial, especially for the big models.
plastic bits are cool, mass troops, cool, and
granted, a wraithknight should not be metal.
but... i digress.
point is, this used to be a collector's hand-me-down multi-generation community (and yes, party-rock) game, and the bits and pieces were for the ages.
since the gw usa thing happened, the attitude has shifted to the throw-away sell-em fast before they think twice attitude that is the poison of the zombified western top-down corporate latter-day capitalist culture.
the fact is that i could call gw on the tele and order 300USD of models in a day, get some freebies tossed in by the dude on the line, and feel - get this - actually FEEL that i was better off for it.
after a while, i only felt ripped off for it.
now, the boxed sets may be a better deal, off the shelf, and frankly i have not been to a hobby store in a decade, but let me guess - two plastic carnifex models for 130USD?
