Default Necron "Bug" Army?

So I was looking through the Necron range on the GW site and noticed the scarabs and spyders, but then there's a lot of other things that kind of feel bug like like the stalkers and Illuminor Szeras. So I took a look at the Forgeworld site and found even more bug like Necron constructs such as the Acanthrites and tomb sentinels, so it got me thinking, could you make a decent competitive bug like necron?

I'm going to borrow my friends codex this weekend hopefully, but I was wondering what those who are experienced with Necrons think.

Well Scarabs are bloody amazing! I run 30 scarab bases at 2000 points. I'd probably run the same number at 1000.

It is mostly the Canoptek elements of the army that are big-like, with a feel sprinklings elsewhere. Many of the options are decent but are mostly in your Fast Attack and Heavy Support slots. So any bug-theme is ultimately side-lined by the Warriors or Immortals. You could go minimalist Troops and heavy in the other FOC sections but you lose Scoring units then. But metal bugs is a good theme; reminds me of The Replicators from SG-1. If I could have found suitable bug-like replacements for Warriors and Immortals, I would have done it.

This about sums it up. The canoptek robots are about as bug as you can get and unfortunately they are a predominantly supportive role.

Wraiths are fucking awesome, Spyders are nice support units, and Scarabs are like Meltaguns - really, really good at what they do, but if you take them and NOTHING else then you're going to have a bad time.

Back before Flyers where a thing I recall the Scarab Farm being a pretty beastly list. 30 Scarabs + 9 Spyders = lots of fun.

Fun tactic, deploy your Scarabs right on the deployment line, Poop out some more Scarabs with a near by Spyder unit, added them in front of said Scarabs at exactly 2". With the 12" Movement, fleet and the fact the the edge of the lead Scarab will be 3.5" beyond your deployment line, you will be very likely to be able to assault anything of your opponents they where foolish enough to deploy close to their deployment line.
