Default Cultists = Wracks?

How much conversion work would you want to see on Cultists before you'd accept them as Dark Eldar Wracks? I don't really want to drop the cash on Finecast Wracks, so I thought Cultists could be pretty cool standins since they're bulkier than Dark Eldar while still looking ragged and pretty nasty. Maybe just add the face masks and change the combat weapons to be more Dark Eldar-y?

Alternatively, pose the same question but for Crypt Ghouls; how far do you need to go before they stop being Crypt Ghouls and become Wracks?

It's as far as you think.

I did have 3 Snap Fit Space Marines cuts and Greenstuffed into Wracks. So it's whatever works for you. Take Grotesques a common option are Rat Ogres from Skaven, they barely take any converting. It's down to you really and how picky your gaming circle are. If it were me I'd have no problem with it and honestly I may just borrow the idea. Since I've currently great 30 of the current Wracks so being able to pop in a couple more alternatives would be great. But the way I see it for Wracks/Grotesques they are made up of all sorts, so you will have all sorts of different looking Wracks and Grotesques since the art of one Haemonclus will be different to another. That's how I see it and easily justifys moded Cultists.

I'd forgotten that little quirk, interesting. I think I'll go with the Crypt Ghoul option, give them the knives from the Wych kit and Reaver heads, they'll be fine.

Sorted then. The fluff for Wracks and Grotesques practically screams conversation in thaf the entire concept it seems borderline impossible to have multiple of either looking the same, and which is why as much as I love both models, I hate them because they are all the same. So go ahead with your Cultist idea, take the Crypt Ghouls and your army will look so much better for it. Wish you luck.

Or do a unit of each. The units are unique and different. And look cool.

I imagine each haemonculi having a "signature" look to his Wracks, so that could explain why some look more like cultists, while some look like ghouls...

As others have said Wracks can look like whatever you want them to look like, there is no reason why they can't be Orks or Nids or anything else really.
