Default Flyers lose Deep Strike.

This is likely in line with the updated Flyer rules in Death From the Skies book. At any rate certain codexes received an FAQ update February 13th. All the updates are pretty identical. Any Flyer that could Deep Strike no longer can. Perhaps this is an attempt to balance Flyers.

For those with long-ranged weapons, it won't matter much. I've never had my Stormraven or Razorwing Deep Strike. But those with short-ranged weapons or a need to quickly unload units could be taxed. I've had my Night Scythes Deep Strike so the disembarking squad can Rapid-fire without Snapshots at an enemy far from my board edge.

Should be interesting to see this play out.

The IG flyers also lost Scout which is interesting.

Huh, interesting. The local DE player who DS's 3 Razorwings is going to be disappointed.

I don't usually Deep Strike my Night/Doom Scythes due to the large foot print they have. Still, losing the option to kinda sucks.

Despite the base size there was little danger to doing it unless too close to enemy models or a board edge. You could get behind an enemy position and still be facing it to shoot, which is something normal Zooming can't do. As I said, I think it's an attempt at balance. The IG Flyers losing Scout just sucks. An Outflanking Flyer, in the right situation, can be pretty nice.

Are we really bothered?
Fliers can get to almost anywhere on the board in perfect safety just by their usual movement... so the loss of DS isn't exactly a massive one. Other then the ability to choose your facing on DS (now being limited to the 1 90deg turn) I can't see it'll have any impact.

As for the loss of the scout rule for IG... its just housecleaning. It can't possibly be used anyway so is just a good way to clear up confusion.

Just curious, but, does this effect them starting in reserve?

Of course we are not very worried. But GW must have been. This could have been done 8 months ago when 6th launched. Something spooked them. Anyway, as I ALREADY said this affects a very small amount of Flyers. And the IG Flyers can benefit from Scout. Remember that Scout confers Outflank, something useful in Hammer and Anvil deployment. No the removal is not devestating. Just removing options and uniqueness.

No. They still start in Reserve. But now they just come on from the table edge.

Wonder if the Forgeworld fliers will also lose deep strike.
