Default So, I'm rounding out my 40k X-mas list and...

...I mainly play Chaos Marines, however, I haven't played since before 6th edition came out and I haven't gotten the rule book or the new codex yet. Are any of the new units worth buying -units such as the Cultists, Heldrake, Mutilators, and the Mauler/Forgefiend?

Are they worth the the price tags given to them both in game and to the wallet? I've already got everything necessary to field a powerful army but I'd like to know if I should bolster my ranks with these new additions.

Also, sorry if this is the incorrect sub-forum for this subject

If you're buying yourself anything, a pair of Heldrakes will do you just fine.

Mutilators are awful. Never buy them. If on ebay for 99 pence each, buy them then give them a crapload of guns and call them Oblits. Never, ever use them as actual Mutilators. Ditto the new characters bar the Sorceror.

Cultists are better bought as lots of 10 or 20 from ebay, and are playable, if not excellent. Maulerfiends and Forgefiends are again, playable enough, but not shining beacons of efficiency - although the models are sexy.

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

if you already have a good size CSM force I would get some heldrakes and possible cultist. The heldrake will give strong air support and the ability to effectivly take enemy flyers. The cultist are not great combat wise but have great utility if used correctly. The two big uses you can go with are using them as large backfield objective holders(cheaper than losing out on good marines getting to fight) The other way to go with them is set them up to be sacrificed, either as a tarpit or as a bullet sponge for overwatch before you send in your assualt troops. Hope this helps you get some good ideas going for your shopping list

It would seem that it's just as I had feared for Mutilators and just as I had hoped for Heldrakes!

I just picked up the codex and I'm starting to toy around with a few ideas. Lorewise, I love Slaaneshi units however, I typically run a Berzerker heavy army on the tabletop in favor of the playstyle.

i personally hate the heldrakes (model wise, just not my style), and the maulerfiends fit my style real well (need a 2nd one)
