How is that any different from getting people to load up on cheap transport vehicles that are pretty expensive for the amount of points they are in game?

Fantasy is a bit more expensive to build an army, but not by THAT much compared to 40k. Fantasy is also still played quite a lot over here (LOTR on the other hand...) But that has nothing to do with the original post.

Moar plastics please!

Can't people just convert hydras? It only took me a few hours and 10 dollars max.
Got a chance to take a few pictures to show the result? I'm still on the lookout for a hydra conversion that doesn't look too naff...

I had an AMAZING time at fightclub.

I arrived a bit late, so I missed the introductions, but man... I had an awesome time at fightclub! 10/10 I would recommend fight club to anybody!
