Default 6th edition Imperial Impressions?

You know from what I have been seeing from the forums the 6th ed has been a mixed bag of excitment/depression for the xenos players. But I have heard almost nothing when it comes to the imperium players I would think that the IG players like the tau would like the changes and make some indication of there thoughts on possible tricks and tactics that have become avaliable/useless.

Is it just me or are the imperium erreily quiet?

So I am growing my enemy.....so what I gotta kill something.

The Imperial forces were, for the most part, doing just fine before 6th came out and are still doing just fine (with the exception of the one army without a full list). The loudest voices on the internet are always those with something to complain about, those who are chugging along quite nicely just continue doing so.

In my IG experience, over watch does nothing. You have to roll a 6 to hit and the garbage las gun still has to always roll high numbers to actually wound. In my experience i kill 1 model of what is attacking me, and then i get wiped out just like before. however i havent tried spamming flamers yet.

It does nothing against a full squad charging you, but in the previous edition a squad of marines with only 5 guys left or a small assault squad would have no reason to not charge you. Now with over watch they do. Especially if you got weapons like plasma guns, even terminators might think twice about just rushing in.

I play SOB, so I am somewhat in the same boat as you, don't charge and hope my guns win the day. With overwatch, know my 10 man squad will get an extra 15 or so shots when I am charged makes it a little easier to run out and throw some decent fire power out, knowing I don't have to completely wipe the squad because I am more likely to be able to handle the charge.

With how i roll attacks and armor saves, it only takes 1 model to wipe me out

I'm still plodding through the rules myself, but from what I've seen so far they favor shooting more than they used to, so I'm pleased. Overwatch and pot-shots with heavy weapons aren't much but they're strictly better for gunline guard, so I'll take it. Pre-measuring is nice as well, but with most of my money makers I've got the whole board covered anyway, so meh. The biggest change for me as far as I've gotten is ordinance getting full strength against vehicles off the of center of the marker. Blow up a squad of tanks with one shot? Yes please.

On the other hand, we've also got random charge distance. Worrying. Maybe I get a few charges where my opponent rolls snake eyes and I get to shoot the hell out of them, but somehow I think it's more likely that everyone's charge distance just doubled.

I have a question on the rules and I should point out I have been on holiday so not had chance to read the rules as much as I would have liked to: with cavalry due to the 12" movement, run and 2d6 charge.....am I now likely to be 30" charged by thunderwolves every game?
Granted this could be funny for my rough riders

Can't assault when running

Or at least that's what I've picked up from various threads anyway, I've still not actually seen the new rule book or played so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
