Default Daemon Armies

Was just wondering if you where to do a daemon army, must you use every unit? or is a themed list possible or actually a massive hinderance?

? As normal with ANY army, you choose what units you want within the confines of the FoC and points, and field those.

Regarding theme as a hindrance, it depends how competitively you play. If trying to play competitively, and your theme isn't 'All Fiends, All The Time' then yes, it's a hindrance.

There are a few 'themed' daemon lists, all of which aren't so hot anymore....at least at 1850. There's the tally list (which is strongest at 1500), it was an annoyance for a month or two before 5th dropped and is now irrelevent. There's a slaneesh themed army with skarbrand at the helm and maxed fiends with some daemonettes/seekers to fill the gaps......and tzeentch with a LoC or fate, HoTs, 3 dakka dps and flamers/horrors.....none of which are very good. Playable casually for sure, but nothing to take to a tourny. Then again I haven't even tried since the GK codex saturated my LGS.

Best bet is to play it like eldar and maximize the units synergy with each other. Daemon units have very clear roles on the tabletop.

Ah ok, it's just I have a World Eaters army and the Greater Daemon model along with Herald from Forgeworld and was thinking of extending it to make a Khorne Daemon army but I always thought daemons of one god only fight with daemons of the same god so it's kind of like a barrier in my head when I see them all together.

Yeah, I guess I can change my view, I just read a book where all the daemons are fighting together and it was kind of cool I guess.

Also just realised I can use my Blood Slaughterer in the army to and found a box of unopened seekers that I got a while back and forgot about, so looks like I got the makings of an army just need some troops

Edit: By the way do you think I could use model as Skarbrand?

Yes, quite easily. The only distinction skar has over a regular thirster are the ripped/useless wings and he generally has two axes, but the size is the same and it could still pass easily.

Skarbrand and Fateweaver make an excellent duo. Last weekend I played in a 1750 tournament and ran them both in a 50/50 tzeentch and Khorne themed army. I Won all 3 games, so needless to say it was pretty awesome. Skarbrand's rerolls in combat made my bloodletters unstoppable. And Fateweaver's rerolls keep himself and Skarbrand survivable.

There's no such thing as too many crisis suits.

Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for The Skull Throne, and Lolz for the Laughing god

Its not worth doing for several reasons.

In terms of fluff, the idea that Daemons don't ever attack real space together has been debunked by several examples of them doing just that. Just have a flick through the codex and you'll see Khorne, Tzeentch, Slaanesh and Nurgle Daemons all side by side sticking it to mortals.

In terms of competitive play its not only boring, but its also a way to majorly gimp yourself in an army which is already hampered by its current rules iteration.

Finally, why deny yourself specific models, when you can legally take them? I think the variety of Daemon models from the various gods look really cool and colourful, so why not field and interesting army, rather than a bland mono-build?

Really? Nearly 650pts on two models? Lucky you didn't run into any Grey Knights, they probably would have ate the list for breakfast.
