Default Chaos Lords

So im needing a HQ Unit to lead my army, and that unit is to be a chaos lord for now... The problem is though that Im not interested in the metal chaos lords (Weapon loadouts and just general looks arent really for me) The only alternative to this is the Chaos Terminator Lord set where i can either create a lord or sorcerer who looks pretty badass... but in terminator armour...

Now my question is, could I get away with using the terminator lord but claiming its just using regular power armour despite him being nearly twice as large as any standard chaos marine? Im presuming for friendly games it wont be a problem but in tournaments would the WYSIWYG rule work against me?

What you see (terminator armor), is what you get (terminator armor). Yes in tournaments your lord would wear his termie armor

Same as above.

But it is not too hard to convert up a Chaos Lord. Now I'm assuming you have the Codex, so on page 67 there is a pretty cool converted Lord to give you an idea of the kinds of stuff you can do. All you really have to do is take your standard Chaos Marine body and make it particularly bad ass :D

Space Marine Commander kit + Chaos Space Marine squad = Power Armored CSM Lord o`awesome.

Just throw those two together, take some of that, some of this, and it will look awesome.

Honestly mate Kitbashing is pretty easy with the Chaos Lord; I recently got the Chirgeon backpack / Cypher backpack set from GW which look pretty good / Interesting if you cut the wing bits off and use the "dragon heads" from a vehicle spure.

Then the body is just a matter of mashing chains, icons and spikes together; seriously the CSM kits come with some really undervalued conversion pieces. The toughest problem is finding a decent helmet for him however the more Warriors of Chaos / Chaos Knight it looks the better; the blend of "Black Knight" and "Ass kickery machine of the 41st Millenium" looks amazing.

Thanks for the replies... I was considering putting together a bunch of kits, just its never going to look as detailed as some of the metal chaos lords but I can live with that for now. Does forgeworld have any chaos conversion kits that are small enough for standard marines?

Yes they do. Some great kits for khornate and plague marines. With a kit bash from chaos marines and warriors of chaos you could put together an iconic marine champ with little difficulty. If you want a combi weapon on him i would think you will have to get that from a loyalist. I don't think there is one in the chaos range. Also if you want a particularly badass cc weapon have a look at the posessed kit or one of the bloodletters weapons. Very chaosy.

Well you could always just use the termie armour and truescale it, to show he has been "elevated" to chaos lord status and been gifted with, XYZ there are tutorials on heresy if you'd like to give it a try.

"They are not Space Banana's they're Imperial fists!" yelled Honsou as he lanced the 'Nilla marine captain in the face with his powersword.
