Default Imotekh as a normal Overlord?

So i was just wondering, If i bought Imotekh the Stormlord, would i be able to field him as a normal Necron Overlord?

I ask this because i like to create my own stories for my HQs but i much prefer the look of Imotekh compared to the normal Overlord

I doubt anyone would care, just be sure to make it clear what the model represents when you play.

^ this, and not use any potentially awsome rules that "imotekh" (emotech) may have.

Why not modify the model in a way that makes it apparent that you`re not using Imotekh?

Change of wargear for instance. Use the res orb hand rather than the flame hand?

The only problem I could see is if you were using another special character in the army as well; it might cause your opponent issues with remembering which character model was actually a special character.

if my opponent was struggling to remember who out of 2 small models was a special character, I'd probably be wondering how he had the mental capacity to pick up a pencil to write his army list

I agree it is not a large issue; however at the end of the second day of a tournament my (usually great) memory is noticeably less perfect, so in some circumstances average people might have difficultly remembering.

Can't see it being a problem myself unless you're in a tournament setting, if its just for friendly play as long as everyone knows whats what it shouldn't cause any issue. Its the same principle as using Eldrad as a fancy looking Farseer.

I will second this. Just change him up a bit to make him noticeably different. Some different arms, etc etc. I'm going to guess that you like his pose better and if that is the case I completely agree. A good idea that I might have to steal :3

Yup, just make a nice custom model / conversion based on his 'chassis' and you'll be fine. Hells, there's a million other special characters without any models available for them all across the 40k landscape, and we have to scratch build / convert them on our own - so why not go the other way 'round.

40k Armies: Dark Eldar / Adepta Sororitas
WHFB Armies: Vampire Counts / Empire / various Elves
Horus Heresy: Alpha Legion / Warp Cult
