For the designers it's Rick Priestly the man essentially created Rogue Trader and set the tone for 40k. Andy Chambers did some great work from a design viewpoint, always pushing things like Chapter Approved and trying to keep the game evolving.

Blanche has done some seminal artwork right from the start, further setting the tone of 40k.

Jes Goodwin of course is responsible for some of the best scuplts and even entire races. Where would the eldar be without Jes?

Paul Sawyer had some of the best white dwarf in his tenure. It was still a real hobby magazin. He was editor when i first got into this as a kid, and white dwarf was one of the things responsible for further drawing me into the hobby.

Rems has kinda touched on my point about jes goodwin, hes produced models amd concepts that make 40k,spave marines are his,as are nids, eldar(both) ,and we have seen skeyches for necrons, not to mention his work mentoring people juan in the design studio plus hes been there from day one he was part of the team who put together the rtb01 marines and the first models for the game and i personally think its the models that attacts people in to the hobby so i think jes trumps the other people(considers crestimg GE studio top trumps cards)

Indeed. Blanche, Chambers & Priestly came to my mind first.

40k Armies: Dark Eldar / Adepta Sororitas
WHFB Armies: Vampire Counts / Empire / various Elves
Horus Heresy: Alpha Legion / Warp Cult

Chambers started the move that has led the hobby into its current direction. Its a shame he left as he did create best rule set and I can see us being in a much stronger postion as a hobby than we currently are. I think Priestly is certainly the one who can be blamed for our addiction though as he is the daddy of Marines and Eldar.

A lot of people rave about Blanche, and personally I dont like his art work. Yes its dark but I just don't see what everybody loves so much.

You know... despite Blanche being the art director, I just don't see his work as mindblowingly good. He sets the right atmosphere with the heavy gothic influence, but his crude style has never managed to impress me all that much tbh.

In fact, I think he's one of the least talented people currently working for GW... but that's just personal opinion... I just plain don't like his style of work.

I have to agree ,i feel 40k has been a success inspite of JBs art work

Blanche is responsible for the concept art upon which the others base the feel of the universe of 40k.

So while I completely agree that his art style is a tad off and not as good as the others, he is essentially the one making the templates that the rest of the art studio uses.

At this point I feel that they could do without him, but I don`t think it would have been the same had it begun with someone else. Better or worse I couldn`t guess, but given the choice i wouldn`t risk it.

%1,000 agreed. I loved 40K when I got into it despite his crude, often confusing, composition and style.

Strange, but not a Stranger.

While we're all having this "Jes Goodwin is God" lovefest, I find it most interesting to see the following on the Contents Page of Rogue Trader.

And I quote...

"Space Marines Original Model Designs:
Bob Naismith."

Though I take your life, I promise you the stars...

[Flerden] 9:05 pm: Why the hell can't he just go offline if he goes to watc tv?
