Ork Battle Fortress conversion 1

Ork Battle Fortress conversion 1

This began life as a 1/35 scale German E100 super-heavy tank. E100 was to have been a 125-ton monster with a 128mm gun, but the prototype hadn't been finished when the war ended. Seemed like a good basis for something Orky .....

This is the Dragon kit, but Trumpeter do one too. Expect to pay 25 -40. To give you an idea of size, the basic tank is bigger all round than a Baneblade.

All the white parts you can see are plastic card additions supported by various Plastruct girder sections etc. Weapons are an assortment of GW and FW parts. Main gun barrel is made from brass tube of 3 sizes cut with a dinky little pipe cutter I got in my local model shop. Took less than 15 minutes to make, plus detailing time.

Grey nutz, boltz 'n rivitts are plastic parts from Grandt Line. Get these in the UK from SB Models. Black rivitts are Peco model railway track pins, widely available. Both are placed in pre-drilled holes. Thank Gork for the modelling power drill!

Mesh for the upper deck floor came from an eBay shop, Fog of War Models. Apart from a few glyphs, only other GW parts are the Trukk boarding planks on the side sponsons.

The edges of all the added armour plates, girders and any other cut edges I've made are roughly textured with a very coarse file and then painted with liquid poly applied with a stiff nylon brush. This gives a pretty good cut plate edge effect. I used the same file to randomly score the plate surfaces too, again followed by liquid poly.

The whole thing comes apart for easier storage, or for playing without all the bits fitted.
