You are not invulnerable, a very lucky turn can make your fully healthy large ship be only a shot or two from death.
The movement of ships is paramount to success, much like the movement of units in 40k. I love positioning

I think you're very right with your initial call on my list. I need another ship in there, and another Z would be a great fit. Also, I'm gunna have to agree with Assault missiles on at least one of them as they were a great boon in facing my girlfriend's swarm of TIEs. The IPL might still come in handy though against lone ships since AMs don't do any damage to the ship you're actually targeting.
