Hey everyone, by Christmas time my group is looking to have 1250pts for our armies. I want to buy an Eldar army. We don't care what codex we use as we just play together for fun. So I was hoping to used 5th ed and run wraith host but I need a copy of the 5th ed and can't seem to find it. So if you have a link please post! If that isn't possible I would like to have a army that involves some of those bigger units mainly because I really like the looks of them (Wraithlord/guard/blade/knight) So if you guys could help me build a 1250pt list with atleast 1 or 2 of them and have it be super competitive that'd be great! Tired of losing to my friends!

EDIT: We rarely use objectives.

I was considering one of these 2

Wraithhost:

wraithknight with cannons and 2 star cannons

wraithlord with 2 bright lances

3 groups of 5 wraith guard 2 with d-scythes and 1 with cannon

spirit seer with spirit stone of anath'lan

2 groups of 3 windrunners

total of 1262 (We don't mind a little extra)

IIRC, there was no 5th Ed elder codex. You'd have to use the 4th ed - that would mean no wraithknights, no spiritseer, no scatterlaser jetbikes, no wraithblades and all your aspect warriors would be terrible. No fliers either.

But the list you above is using the 7th ed codex anyway...

What armies are you likely to face?

The wraithhost in one of the older codexs has the wraithguard as a troop choice.


The teams i'm facing (Rough guess as I can't remember exactly what they have)

Dark Angels: Belial, bikes, termies, the flail guys, librarian and space marines

Grey Knights : 10 paladins, 5 terminators and Draigo

Chaos: Daemon prince, Hel brute, Rhino, 7 chosen, chaos lord, 20 cultists, and havoc squad

Tyranids: lots of hormagaunts

We are currently doing 1000pts going to 1250 by Christmas.

I had considered a grav tank army too


I have a decent understanding of the Eldar but am obviously very new as I don't own them, so feel free to talk like i'm a moron.

Was looking at these as a possibilities too.

10 DR? thats a butt load of points. i mean i love them i truly do but having what...250+ points for a bombardment squad is ridiculous. plus having 3 falcons opens up their special ability and if you want to exercise it, you will only have an Avatar and Dark Reapers for them to shoot at and depending on the enemies range, the Dark reapers are going to be the first to go or will result in a lot of lost points. Points that could be spent on jet bikes or even guardian defenders that can keep their board position past first turn and won't hurt if you lose some of them. Now dark reapers are great and 4-5 of them will be fine but 11 (including exarch) model unit at T3 for 250+ its is just asking to get shot at. And after they are gone or reduced to a few models, the Avatar still is able to be wounded by regular S4 fire if the opponent is willing to fire at it.

I have been speaking to someone about a list and here is what I've got it boiled down to. Let me know what you think.

I like the list but do both you exarchs have EML? i personally don't like them unless my meta was filled with flyers and if the EML was TL on a +1 BS (Aspect host) Wave Serpent.

Yes both have EML, I wasn't really sure what was best there, lots of people in videos seemed to think they are top dog. Open to suggestions.

The only reason to take EML is if you expect flyers. if you are going to spend 20 pts a exarch on a weapon, I would choose a tempest launcher. It is great for bikes and other large group rushing units. EML has a crappy blast and a poor S8 AP3 shot that a bright lance would better be used for.
