thane-142
runic weapon(master rune of swiftness, rune of cleaving, rune of fury)
runic armour(rune of stone)
shield

dragon slayer-50

12 warriors-133
shields, veteran, musician, standard bearer.

12 thunderers-193
veteran with brace of pistols, musician, standard bearer

8 miners-113
prospector, musician, standard bearer

cannon-125
rune of forging

you have probably noticed that this army is made form the battle for skull pass dwarfs, with the addition of 2 thunderers i had lying around.

i wanted to try a small list that i could use to learn the rules and some basic tactics. Any suggestions for a complete beginner at fantasy?

One thing i will say (and as a begginer you should easily get away with it) take the two thunderers and let them pretend to be warriors, this will give you 14 stick the Thane in there and you have two ranks for combat resolution.
Other than that its best not to go into to much detail till youve got your basics down. Good luck and happy gaming.

ok thanks for the tip ancient, good idea as i have heard to keep the ranks 5 troopers wide for combat resolution. Anything else that needs changing?

I am fairly new to the dwarfs as well, got about 5 games under the belt. So far I think 7 ranks seem to be good for hitting the larger enemy units (cav for instance) as that way you get to hit all the enemy front rank models.

Doesn't help with the combat res on the lower point games unless you manage to cull the opposing unit.

Hope it helps a little.
