Default 1500pts - A First Attempt

As my current army project is coming a close, I feel the need to pour yet more money in this hobby. And into what better to do it than the army with the most beautiful miniatures range?

Duke Sliscus
[150]

5 Incubi
- Venom w/ Splinter Cannon
[170]

3 Trueborn w/ 2 Splinter Cannons
- Venom w/ Splinter Cannon
[121]

5 Warriors w/ Blaster
- Venom
[115]

10 Wytches w/ 2 Hydra Guantlets
- Hekatrix w/ Agoniser
- Raider
[210]

10 Wytches w/ 2 Hydra Guantlets
- Hekatrix w/ Agoniser
- Raider
[210]

3 Reavers w/ Cluster Caltrops
[86]

3 Reavers w/ Cluster Caltrops
[86]

Ravager w/ Flicker Fields
[115]

Ravager w/ Flicker Fields
[115]

Ravager w/ Flicker Fields
[115]

[1493]

So this is designed as something of a 'balanced' list. There are plenty of ranged elements; Ravagers, Raiders and Warriors to bust tanks an transports, as well as the Reavers and Trueborn to mess up infantry squads. The Wytches and Incubi are the assault element of the force, providing either tough tarpits (hopefully with FNP from Sliscus' Contraband), as well as a hard hitting power weapon armed unit.

The general strategy would be to break as many transports as possible in the first turns and then get the wytches into combat as soon as possible. As they bog down two units, the other, still mobile, ranged elements can pick apart other targets while the Incubi butcher the most valuable thing they can get their hands on. Reavers will spend all their time moving flat out to traumatise foot-slogging squads (2D3 S4 + D6 S6 hits seems like a nice use of 86 points, especially on targets like Grey Knights and such).

Of course, this is an army in planning, so I've not spent a penny on it yet - chop and change as you see fit; criticism is why I'm here.

its 'ok' for an all round list. I would, personally, drop the reavers and get more warriors in venoms, as they do the AI job just a tiny bit better (drop some of those hydra gauntlets to make the few points youd be over, they are not necessary)

but for all intents and purposes, I wont rip into you too hard, as you have stated your intent to have the list be all rounded.

I will say that I find you could use alot more AT though. As Ravagers tend to be focused down early, and you only have a single blaster to add to the AT.

your welcome to go check out my min maxed venom spam tourny list, but that ones nasty to the point of people may stop playing me entirely because of it list. XD

I've seen your list, yeah. I wasn't really overly sold on the idea of spamming Blasters in Venoms. As effective as it may be, it does seem a little as though you're just trying to annoy your opponent. Stupid question, but does it actually work? I mean, your list has no CC units in it, just seems like a whole load of guys shooting from flimsy transports. Whatever happened to the "assaults are king in the 5th edition" mantra which seems to sweep around the internet like a plague?

That said, you're the expert and I've merely flicked through the codex. ;)

it is stupidly effective.

the whole "Assaults are king" in 5th is overrated BS spewed by morons who dont know how to play.

the DE work well as an assault army, using and abusing Wytches as hold up units, so long as they have FnP they are impossibly hard to kill in close combat, needing to get through 2 4+ saves, as long as your not facing FNP ignoring weapons.

but Ive said it before in other places ive given advice, DE are BETTER at a range.

think about it:

I have 10 Vehicle targets on the field, each being easy to kill, but so cheap, point wise, that i can easily afford to lose them and still go on to dominate in my next turn, most armies would end up with, approximately 4? units dedicated to Anti Tank. outside of Leafblower IG, and Razorspam SM lists. because of this, they cant deal with the stupid mass of vehicles I have before I rip through their units. having 4 blasters into one transport, 5 into another, then having 72 shots from my Venoms into the squads, will annihilate their assaulting force, add to that i have a single wytch squad i use as my hold up unit, to try and keep units i dont want near my vehicles, just out of reach for a turn so i can turbo boost, or move 12" away to save the vehicles.

One thing I say to EVERY new DE player, and now im saying it to you, FOCUS your attacks and abuse Line of Sight. If your getting a cover save from an opponent, your playing correctly. if your focusing down one unit at a time, your playing correctly.

if you spread out your attacks, you lose, if you focus your attacks to bring targets to the points they need to be at (IE: preventing transports with big cargo, Land raiders, to not be able to move = good. Destroying heavy weapons / wrecking Anti tank vehicles = good)

The reason my list works well for me is I abuse Line of Sight, making so Im either untargetable or I get a 4+ cover on my vehicles from units Im not destroying. add to the fact I make sure to have many targets for my opponent to wrack his brain over on which ones to target, gives my army an edge over all but the two lists I mentioned above, which work in a similar way.

and for the record, it is 'a whole load of guys shooting from flimsy transports' but when you have amassed as much fire power as my list does, losing a transport or two, does not seem like a huge loss (if you notice, my units are 125 points a piece more or less, in a 1500 list, thats nothing if i lose a part of the squad)

I tried the Venom Spam today a couple times in Vassal and I have to say that is is extremely effective. It takes a while though, until you know where to place your Venoms, so they can take down a target and are then out of LOS for your opponents other units. Give him also so many targets, that he is just overwhelmed and starts loosing focus. If he starts spreading his fire instead of focusing down your Venoms systematically one by one, then you already won.
