Default 10 year old list

This was my first list with de when they first came out circa 10 years ago.
Kind of a laugh now, but then, my first opponent was nids and it did ok agaisnt the 'onion'.
I had tons of warriors because they came in the boxed game and few actually wanted them. I would pick up 10 of them on sprues for 5 bucks. Also interesting how, when they first came out they were considered a 'horde' army.
Just converted it to today's terminology, organization chart choices and point costs, to see, and to share.
(DE was also my first 40K army, and it certainly taught me humility. )

So, as I remember it.

HQ

Dracon
combat drugs
shadow field
agonizer
120 pts

2 homonculi
Scisorhands, liquifier.
150 pts.

Troops

20 warriors, 2 splinter canons
(think I had 4 spl can as this was allowed then)
200 pts

20 warriors, 2 splinter canons
200 pts

20 warriors, 2 splinter canons
200 pts

9 wyches, 1 with hydra knives, one succubus with agonizer
in raider
(these used to elites)
200 pts

total
1070
(to make into todays 1000 pt I could drop the venom blades and 2 warriors per unit)

Against the old nids it worked because i effectivelly shot the outer layer of cheap termigants, then could assault (effectively) what used to be the deadliest assault unit in the game (gene stealers).
My Archon, could also kill the usual hive tyrant at the core.

I'm in almost exactly the same situation as you! played DE around 10 years ago (v badly no real grasp on tactics) against my friends nids and have recently come back to them with the new book.

DE as a sort of horde like this is a very interesting idea actually although in 5th 1 raider alone will last all of 10 seconds before being reduce to a smoking ruin and probably taking half the witches with it.

Also need to consider that 5th ed puts a big emphasis on mechanised armies, you have almost no anti tank, infact the lance on the raider is the only thing you have that can scratch a tank, some blaster toting reaves might be a good idea.

Interesting idea for a list though has inspired me *trundles off to amke a DE horde list*

cheers!

I don't know if they could be an effective horde.
How's this then, off the top of my head.

HQ

3x Homuculi
venom blade and liquifier
65 e (195)
one with grotes, one with wyches, one with a kabalite squad

Troops

2x units of 20 kabalites, with sybarite
blaster
2 spl cannons
210 e (420 total)

2x units of 20 kabalites
blaster
2 dark lances
240 e (480 total)

10 wyches
2 hydragauntlets
succubus with phantasm and venom blade
145

Elites

2 units of
4 tueborn,
2 dark lances
98 (196 total)

10 grotesques
350

fast attack

5 beastmasters, each with 2 razorwings
210

Total of 1996

141 models, is that enough to qualify as a horde?

"Lock the door... and hope they don't have Flamers!"

I'd drop the Wyches for a Void Raven (because it fits the points better than a Ravager) and Deep Strike it to make sure it shoots at least once.

And I'd put Blasters on the Splinter Cannon squads too tbh, gives you more options vs Vehicles and against MEQs the Blasters kills just as much as the Shredder.

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

Very good point about the blasters and I edited the above list with this suggestion.
I actually really hate the wyches and included them d/t the horde theme, which kinda precludes the unitary albeit awesome voidraven.
or
Drop wyches and one kabalite DL squad, and add 2 10 man wracks and 6 reavers

so

I think this list should be called 'fish in a barrel'

HQ

3x Homuculi
venom blade and liquifier
65 e (195)
one with grotes, 1 with e blob squad (most of the army now has fnp)
Troops

2x units of 20 kabalites, with sybarite
blaster
2 spl cannons
220 e (440 total)

2 unit of 10 kabalites
dark lances
125 e (250 total)

2x units of 10 wracks
100 e (200 total)

Elites

2 units of
4 trueborn,
2 dark lances
98 (196 total)

10 grotesques
350

fast attack

6 reavers with 2 heat lances
156

5 beastmasters, each with 2 razorwings
210

Total of 1997

Grotesques screening kabal with spl. canons. beside wracks screening 2nd kabal with spl canons
6 DL trying to pick off mechanized
Reavers to distract and split up the opponent forces.

I find the more I work on this list, the more it looks like a regular DE army with troops supplanting raiders and without the excellent ravagers.
