Default Cosplay help

Hey guys I'm new to making cosplays, but I'm aiming to have a Imperial Guard one made for Armaggedon Auckland in ether September or October this year.
Iv given myself 8/9 months so that I have something that I can be proud of.

I have been looking around for tutorials on youtube etc, but if there are any anyone recommends please let me know.

Thanks for the ideas, it will all help in the long run.

What I'm aiming for.

Cadian style amour.
Colored to match my own IG army color scheme. blue/grey armor, Black or dark blue fatigues.

Helmet:
Working radio built into it.
(weather or not it will function as a phone as well will depend on what I can get my hands on for cheap/free.)

Chest plate.
As the model

Shoulder plates
numbering and army badge.

Fatigues
Imperial Guard & Regiment badge

lasgun
Converted G36 BB gun.

Laspistol
Prob a converted nerf gun or something.

Now what Iv got so far is

There a local army surplus shop I can get the fatigues from. But what I'm stumped on is the chest plate and shoulder pads, how would you guys recommend go about making those?

This thread will also be my WIP thread.
mods/admins let me know if I'v posted this in the wrong area.

Could you show a pic. on the style you're going for?
Thus far I think you're going Cadian.

Some paintball stores have some stuff you might be able to use as a base.

Though it might serve better as inspiration, looking at the price tags.

My girlfriend said she didn't like Daft Punk. She's single now. Hahahahahaha lol, just kidding. She's dead...

You could also use motor cross armour

expensive too but maybe you can get it cheap off eBay ?
