Default What is the your definition of cosplay?

well...what is your definition of "cosplay"?
Is it really necessary to look exactly alike with a particular character?
How about wearing a Japanese-styled uniform with random wigs?
Some think that wearing plainly a wig isn't cosplay...
Den what about wearing a costume without the actual wig?

Air your thoughts here!!
Everyone have their own opinions, so pls dont flame

As a proud parent of a 'Transformer' cos-player I was having this very same conversation with her.
She doesn't like the super awesome costumes, as it pushes the standard up too high for those without the skills and/or money to keep up with them.
Myself and my wife come from re-enactment as far as dressing up is concerned (although my wife was one of the first cos-players in the UK) and thus are more into getting things right.
In the end, it all relies on what the player gets the most fun from. Be it just a wig, or something akin to a Napoleonic General of Hussars!

Hmmm I don't really have an opinion. My wife LARPS, but dressing up isn't all that rigorous.

I would however love to see a costume from the 3rd Cybertronian Hussars.

Cosplay is something I think of as dressing up as something/someone from any Fandom, not necessarily Japanese ones. People who dress as Harry Potter, Doctor Who et al would fall under that umbrella in my mind.

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

Got agree with Sethis. My eye's were opened at a MCN event a few years ago. My wife would love to get into Steampunk. As I've already said, our little girl (she's 21) is into Transformers cosplay
