Default Best Chaos gunline

Hi all,

Due to come up against lots of Genestealers and a Shadow Sword with a Volcanoe Cannon.

I sometimes do OK against this type of army depending game type, board set up and first turn. But what I've never really done is try a gunline against them.

Any thoughts on 2000 point list sporting the best gunline Chaos has to offer please?

I have access to pretty much anything Chaos including Daemons, Lord of Skulls and a Knight.

Cheers, Jon.

Well, if you're looking to tailor a little... Definitely DON'T take the Lord of Skulls or the Knight. Those are the natural prey of the Shadowsword's giant overcompensating cannon... 3d3 shots, will wound those on 2+ (with rerolls against Titanic!) at -5 AP and doing 2d6 damage. 500+ points being vaporized in one, maybe 2 rounds of shooting

However, by the same token a Shadowsword is a horrible superheavy to have when all you have to shoot at is cheap infantry, so... Cheap infantry with a good amount of flamers?

Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and horrifying to know.

It all comes down to the first turn with KLoS versus the Shadow Sword. Iíve killed 2 by turn 2 recently when Iíve had first turn. Drop in Obliterators if itís not bubble wrapped and keep a Lord near the KLoS for the re-rolling 1s and you can bring it down a peg or two.

Yeah cheap infantry with flamers sounds good!

Just played a game in my local clubs championship. Had to use a Brigade and 2500 points max.

2 x Chaos Lord
1 x Lord on a bike
1 x Sorcerer on a bike

4 x 10 Cultists all autoguns and 1 heavy stunner
2 x 20 Marines with 1 x plasma and 1 x heavy bolter

2 x 9 Noise Marines All Sonic Blasters and 1 Blastmaster
5 x Chosen with Flamers

5 x bikes with 2 flamers and combo flamer
2 x 1 Spawn

Unit of Obliterators
9 xHavocs with Lascannons
9 x Havocs with Autocanons

Kept the Lords around for the re-rollable 1s.
Alpha Legion meant he added 1 to shooting hits.

Overall very successful and made a change to rushing everything into combat.

Can you elaborate on the performance of those Noise Marines?
I'm contemplating using a blob of 20 to maximize that endless cacophony.

I know they'll be vulnerable to morale, but Abaddon will be there to mitigate that.

Also, did you find the autocannons useful?
Used to field them all the time myself, but now I'm not so sure.

Trying is the first step towards failure.

Against light infantry such as Genestealers the Noise Marines are ace. Cover is pretty useless in 8th so far but it negates that save bonus too if needed. Iíd certainly try a blob of 20, youíve got me thinking now. And with Abaddon to keep them fearless thatís even better. The endless cacophony puts people off shooting/attaching them depending on whatís nearby.

Autocannons can be really good. Just depends on your luck on the day. I once used 4 Lascannon Havocs in a game that only ever dished out 1 wound a time. However, helpful to have them there when you arenít using any Daemon Engines or tanks.

Tried a group of 20 with 18 Sonic Blasters and two Blastmasters. Abaddon near for fearless and rerolls, and a Sorcerer for Delightful Agonies.
Didn't get Agonies off a single time, but that unit performed extremely well. Highly recommended!
Used three command points per turn on Vets and Cacophony.

Trying is the first step towards failure.
