I have a particular Tau opponent in mind, and although things never work out the way I plan them, I can't wait to drop 4 Balestorm Missile large blasts and 2 Heldrake templates on him. Oooh, the tears!

I love the sound of it. What I wonder, though, is are you going to hold the bikers in reserve until the tanks have a chance to pummel your opponent a bit? I ask because if you race the bikes across the table, there's a pretty fair chance that scatter from 1 of 4 of those bad boys is gonna land on them, or they will be locked in combat with units that will become un-target-able by shooting attacks.

A variation on the flyerspam list from before:

CRIMSON SLAUGHTERERS (eh? eh?) 2001 POINTS:

HQ:

Sorcerer: Mastery Level 3, Spell Familiar, Sigil of Corruption, Force Axe: TELEPATHY

TROOPS:

Cultists x30: 3x Flamer <== joined by Sorcerer
Cultists x10

FAST ATTACK:

Heldrake: Baleflamer
Heldrake: Baleflamer
Hell Blade: Helstorm Autocannons

HEAVY SUPPORT:

Fire Raptor: Reaper Batteries, Armoured Ceramite, Balestorm Missiles
Blood Slaughterer x2: 2x Impaler
Blood Slaughterer x2: 2x Impaler

FORTIFICATIONS:

Aegis Defense Line: Comms Relay

HELBRUTE MAYHEM PACK:

Helbrute: Multimelta, Power Fist, Heavy Flamer
Helbrute: Multimelta, Power Fist, Heavy Flamer
Helbrute: Multimelta, Power Fist, Heavy Flamer

I really like Blood Slaughterers, I don't know why I haven't even tried them yet by proxying Maulerfiends. Sure they have to move toward the closest thing, but hopefully Deep Strike can mitigate this a bit. That Impaler, man! Can effectively charge the turn they arrive, that's awesome! Fuck you, Riptides!

I was going back and forth between a smaller unit of cultists (19) and a unit of 5 CSM in a Rhino for objective grabbing. I think with the list above, though, I may have the firepower to clear objectives of OS units. Who cares? Maybe this list isn't good at grabbing objectives, but it's good at killing stuff. KILLING STUFF! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Although I absolutely love the Hellbrute models I'm not a big fan of their rules, besides them this list looks absolutely beastly! I would prefer more small units as troops as opposed to just one big blob of cultists though, perhaps you could drops the hellbrutes and invest in some power armour?^^

Well, the formation allows them to Deep Strike and gives them IWND. Otherwise, I really have no "reliable" anti-tank shooting. Sure they could (and often do) mishap, but if they're within 12" of a vehicle there's a pretty good chance I'm gonna blow it up or immobilize it.

The Slaughterererers are definitely vehicle rapists, but I think on their own they won't be enough. The brutes can target 3 separate units, whilst the slaughterers only 2.

I'm feeling the lack of power armor too. I'll fiddle around with it and see if I can come up with an alternative of sorts. The huge blob of Cultists is to hold a home objective and activate the Comms Relay. If I get lucky and roll Invisibility I'll keep them Invisible all game long so they can't get killed. Sure they can go to ground for a 2+, or roll Shrouded for a 2+ but if anything that ignores cover shoots at 'em they'll die in droves. This way an attacker will have to either pump a ton of snap shots into them (and since there are so many bodies it will be a waste), or charge them to get safely stuck in close combat. In that case, they'll eat 3d3 flamer shots on overwatch.

OR Version 2:

HQ:

TROOPS:

Cultists x30 <== joined by Sorcerer
Chaos Space Marines x10: 2x Meltagun, Melta bombs, Rhino, Dirge Caster
Chaos Space Marines x10: 2x Meltagun, Melta bombs, Rhino, Dirge Caster

FAST ATTACK:

Heldrake: Baleflamer
Heldrake: Baleflamer
Hell Blade: Helstorm Autocannons

HEAVY SUPPORT:

Blood Slaughterer x2: 2x Impaler
Blood Slaughterer x2: 2x Impaler

FORTIFICATIONS:

Aegis Defense Line: Comms Relay

For grabbing objectives these lists are defnitely superior to the first, but for popping armor I think the Brutes still have the best chance. Without the Brutes, I'd be relying on the CSM for anti-vehicle. This means getting them within 6" of something juicy, which leaves them very vulnerable. Splitting them up into 4 units is good because that means even though each unit on its own is doing less damage, the likelihood of the transport being blown up in a single turn is lower. With the 2 groups of 10, there is a pretty good chance both tanks get popped in turn 1. 5 units of objective secured (9 if rhinos go off on their own) are pretty good, though.

Other than the Blood Slaughterers, this list does best being entirely kept out of combat.

The Fire Raptor can clear shitty hordes pretty well with Balefire missiles, monstrous creatures with its other weaponry, and lighter vehicles too. The Heldrakes can obviously roast anything with a 3+ or worse save and vector strike flyers. Hell Blade is my dedicated anti-air unless there are no air targets.

CSM in units of 5 are just gonna suck it in combat against just about anything. Sure they can kill Fire Warriors, but all 5 will probably die to Overwatch if they even think of charging (unless they have Dirge casters). That's why the 6" threat range is so dangerous. If they get popped they have to charge or they're gonna get owned in one way or the other.
