I know it's awesome having the Army Lists forum divided up into neat little sub-forums, but you need to remember: Just because the forum is called "Space Marines" (or Tau, or whichever) does NOT mean it is for posting anything and everything related to that army. It is just for posting (or requesting) Army Lists for that faction.
If you have questions about rules or tactics or units for a given race then come down to 40k Rules Discussions
or 40k Tactics
or even General 40k
and ask the experts.
If you see people posting things other than lists for review, or requests for lists, just report it. Don't come onto the thread just to say "This is in the wrong place!" that does nothing to help and only serves to embarass the OP and annoy the mods.
On a similar note, while we do appreciate people reporting misposted threads, bear in mind that just because someone doesn't come into the discussion with an army list doesn't necessarily mean it's in the wrong foprum. People come in and ask "how do I make a good list out of these models?" or "I need a good starting list at XXXX points" that's fine.
But if people come in and ask "How does X rule work?" or "Which is better, X unit or Y unit?" etc, then the thread is going to need to be moved.
Thank you for reading, happy posting.
Edit: Additionally, PLEASE do not post itemized points costs for your units.
Posting the cost of the unit as a total is fine, but breaking down the points cost for every single model and upgrade is not just unnecessary, but it also puts us on thin ice with GW legal, who take a dim view of people making it so others don't need to buy their books. It also takes up a bunch more space and contributes nothing that your prospective readers don't already know. If you think someone needs to know how much your basic troops cost, you probably don't want their opinion on your list to begin with.
If the cost of a model or upgrade comes up in the course of *discussing* the list, that is fine. For example, if someone says "I would drop <upgrade> from that unit, it's really not worth the 5 points, and they could be better spent giving <weapon> to this unit." that is acceptable. If the unit consists of a single model with no upgrades (such as special characters), it is still fine to list that model's cost as the total for the unit.
Hypothetical Troops Unit: 245pts
10x HypoTroops, 1x HypoCannon, 2x HypoBlasters, Hypothetical Unit Upgrade
Hypothetical HQ Character: 185pts
"I'm not sure the Hypocannon is worth 50 points. You could be better off buying a couple more HypoTroops with HypoBlasters for the same cost."
Hypothetical Troops Unit: 245
10x HypoTroops 150
1x HypoCannon 50
2x HypoBlasters 15 each
Hypothetical Unit Upgrade 15
"How much does the HypoTruck cost? I don't have the books and/or don't want to look it up. Please also tell me what its AV is for it, and all of its rules."
Assume the other members posting on Hypothetical Army Lists know how much HypoTroops and HypoCannons cost and just tell them what you've got.
