Remind me but what corruption are you referring to?

One of the Iron Warriors being a geologist/talking to stones?

If so, I need something less comical for a genetically engineered killing machine.

I am really shocked no one has brought up Felix Cassander. Once he was on Fabius's slab the entire mini story captivated me. I was hoping when he got unloaded onto the Iron Hands ship he would have attacked Perterabo and got squished. Something heroic with him buying the loyalist enough time to do "Fill in the blank".

I tried googling him while I was reading the whole book because I couldn't wait to see what happened to him, and the rest of the book (while still good) was taking too long. Only book I have ever done that with.

While not heroic his end did generate some emotion with me. Poor bastard.

I suspected after "Betrayer" when Angron ascended they would do all 4 'specialist' Chaos Primarchs. "Angel Exterminatus" pretty much confirms that. The whole thing seems like a really big set up for the seige of Terra. We all know the only thing holding Chaos together is Horus, and without him... well things happened the way they happened. Having the envoys of the 4 Chaos gods there would strain that alliance all the more. I doubt any of the others will asecned until after the Heresy. We know Pert and Lorgar come after. Horus is dead. Alpharius, who knows (or cares). Curze (pretty much) kills himself.

And from a practical point, do you really think they are going to alienate the Nurgle and Tzientche lovers by not making them Daemon Princes during the heresy? I bet the authors are all fighting over who gets to tell Magnus and Mort's story. Please, anyone but Abnett!

He destroyed a lot of Fabius's work at the end leaving only a tube with Hon Su written on it left, so he was pretty heroic.

@Zooey72 Magnus has apparently already ascended as per the end of A Thousand Sons, though that is open to interpretation.

In previous lore Mortarion is noted as ascending prior to Terra, as the Death Guard are becalmed in the warp and after Terra when Mortarion claims the Plague Planet. Personally, I think it makes more sense for the series to show him ascending as they are becalmed in the warp (which is also the route the CV takes).

And as you said, Lorgar and Perturabo ascend after the Heresy.

His whole sub-plot just seemed to go nowhere for me though. I just didn't feel that interested in it, and was even more disappointed by it's end. In fact, it seems as if the whole situation was made just to give an excuse for Fabius lab to be torn up and the vials lost, setting up 'Honsou'. Which again, seems to be the entire point of this book, to set up his 40k novels. Unforgivably so. There's allusions, references, hints, nods or easter eggs, and then there's shamelessly making your entire Horus Heresy novel forgo substantive Heresy plotlines in favour of making a prequel to your 40k series.

I don't think that was princedom that Magnus got at the end of "A Thousand Sons", I think it was just survival. As of "Betrayer" Magnus is still on the fence as to whether he wants to join Horus or sit on the fence. Furthermore he berates Lorgar for not listening to him when he told him to stop looking into the warp for gods or he would find "Misery". He just doesn't seem very "down for the cause" to be a Daemon Prince. Also from the pictures I have seen he is more like a cyclops with wings as a Daemon Prince. His current Heresy form he is more like a ghost, but still looks the same.

If I remember correctly Mort's fleet gets turned during the trip to Terra. Typhon lets out the disease and they than turn into plague marines. That could be when Mort ascends.

I wonder if there is any real "power up" by them becoming Daemon Princes. After the Heresy when Papa smurf fights Fulgrim he almost wins. It could be argued that Chaos is more like a drug. You may feel invincible but you really aren't, and it always takes 10 times more than what it gives.

On a side note, they certainly did 'gay up' Fulgrim. He is like the Ru Paul of 40k.
