The Gue'vesa: Some may call them heretics, but no! They are Socialist Subversives working for the Greater Good!

The Saal'da Sept are a stealthy group of Tau who act as shadowy overseers to auxiliary colonization forces on the edges of Tau space, bringing new worlds and peoples under the protective light of the Empire.

Why risk precious Tau lives when eager citizens of the empire are willing to fight and die to gain new territories?

» Background/Fluff
In the wake of the Damocles Gulf Crusade, Imperial Forces in the Eastern Fringe had withdrawn in response to the Tyranid threat. On one such abandoned back-world, Tauron, the Imperial call to arms came in the face of a massive Ork incursion, leaving the undermanned and poorly armed PDF to fight alone. Imperials held that Tauron had a history of ?dissention? and non-canon practices, an example of this seen on the world?s smaller outposts within the forests where Kroot hunters were welcomed to trade and encouraged to hunt the large spined wurms that bothered local farmers and ruined crops. This practice saw that Tauron?s sturdy, practical folk were the target of vicious Ecclesiarchal retribution on more than one occasion. Tauron's abandonment by the Imperial Guard stationed there and the vacation of its planetary governor and his personal security forces left the people with deep spite for the Imperium. Had no true dissention existed before, now it burned in those left behind.

The Orks decimated the planet?s cities and the outgunned Tauron hastily pulled back to outposts deep within the planet?s vast forests?

After a month of guerrilla warfare, supplies were low and the Tauron?s numbers fell quickly. A desperate plea for help was transmitted blindly into space to give the Tauron?s depleted population some shred of hope in the face of overwhelming odds.

Two weeks after the SOS broadwave was sent, Kroot battlespheres of the Piishii kindred smashed into the forests. The Piishii eagerly joined the Tauron in their guerrilla war, feeding on greenskins and assimilating the DNA of the planet?s remaining animal life to preserve useful traits. Along with the Piishii Shaper Council, a Water Caste negotiator from the Saal?Da Sept had come who brought a message to the battered survivors:

If the Tauron submitted to the will of the Tau and accepted the Tau?va, they would be saved and welcomed into the Empire.

The offer was gratefully accepted, and Saal?Da?s Stealth Hunter cadres arrived in force. Thanks to the Tau?s benevolence, what was left of the Tauron people had been saved, but when the war was won they were forced to look back at incredible losses. Their once lush planet was scarred and dying, forests and fields charred black by scorcha fuel, cities razed, and 99% of its 2 billion inhabitants killed by choppa or slugga. The Tauron had been given a place in the Tau Empire, but thanks to greenskins had lost their planet. They found work as a frontier defence force for the Saal?Da, and soon the Sept?s Ethereals offered them the chance to colonize new planets in the name of the Greater
Good. Outfitted with new technology and schooled in Kau?on tactical theory, advanced engineering and the ways of the Tau?va, they set off to join the Empire's glorious 3rd Sphere Expansion, looking for a new place to call home.
