Default April Painting Deathmatch Voting Thread

Voting for

Voting in this deathmatch should be based not just on painting skill, but also for application of different painting techniques, individual artist improvement, creativity and originality etc.

In order to vote, you must pick your favourite 3 entries and list them in order of favourite to least favourite. For example I would vote:

1) Dave T Hobbit (favourite)
2) humakt (second favourite)
3) Viscount Vash (third favourite)

If you vote for an entry as your favourite that entry will recieve 3 points, if you vote for an entry as your second favourite it will recieve 2 points and if you vote for an entry as your third favourite it will recieve 1 point. Once voting is finished I will add up all of the results and the winner will be announced.

If you have entered but do not cast your vote, then no votes for you will count. This is to encourage voting and to ensure that we at least get some votes.

Also note that if you vote for an entry that is not eligible for any reason (I still post them up so that others can see them) then the entire vote will be disregarded (1st, 2nd and 3rd choices).

Anybody voting who has less than 100 posts to his/her name will be disqualified from voting to eliminate cheating as although it is a non-competitive event, we are still taking precautions against cheaters (this rule does not apply if you are a participant).

Voting will be open for 7 days and will close at Midnight GMT on 9 May 2013. Any votes cast after this time will be disregarded. If you do not vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd then your vote will also be disregarded.

Awards are as follows:
Participation: 1 reputation
3rd Place: 2 reputation
2nd Place: 3 reputation
1st Place: 4 reputation, receive Mark of Slaanesh during the quarterly Heresy Online Awards

(DO NOT VOTE FOR YOURSELF)

The Entries are:

Boc - NOT ELIGIBLE, DO NOT VOTE

1. Nefrugle
2. DaisyDuke
3. Dragblud Da Skrunka

Wow, a tough call, to be sure! I actually had to flip a coin between Nefrugle and DaisyDuke as to who went where on my votes-- I think both units are equally sharp looking!

I really dig what Nefrugle's got going on with the Tyranids. The bold color transitions between grey and yellow looks sharp, and it's all very cleanly done. Not everyone is a fan of that almost "cartoon" style of coloration, where there are no harsh edge highlights but feature exaggerated shadows, but I always thought it looked great on Tyranids. It's a very minor issue, ultimately, but I feel like completed bases would really take this unit to the next level-- as they are, the bases feel unfinished to me.

DaisyDuke's Night Lords feature some cool conversions that allow for great spot colors, and the shading and edge highlights are all clean and well done. It's always good to see some of the classic models, as well-- especially painted in a way so that they look good. I've never been a fan of the generation of Chaos Space Marine models that the model with the missile launcher and flamer are from, but DaisyDuke has done a fine job on these. Much like Nefrugle's entry, I think the bases on the Night Lords need some work-- on one hand, they've got some paint and material on them, but there are large patches that appear to just be painted plastic on them as well, and it leaves that same unfinished feel to them as having not done work on the bases at all to my eye.

Dragblud's entry has the things I tend to look for in a cohesive, good-looking unit. Clean, bright colors, combined with complete and detailed basing and hand-painted details such as the rusted edges on a couple of the choppas. I can tell the unit's a good looking one, and I wanted to acknowledge it for its completeness and (though the word feels odd to apply to Orks) cleanliness. However, the pictures are so far away that it's hard to really look at the skill used in the process of painting the models-- enough so that I couldn't fairly vote for the entry for first place, but can definitely recognize it deserves a spot on the podium from what I can see.

1. Nefrugle
2. The Son of Horus
3. Dragblud da Skrunka

I like the colours of the Tyranids in Nefrugle's a lot. I totally agree with the bases too. Even something as simple as painting them brown and adding some sand would have made the buggers really pop. Could have possibly used another highlight on the plating too, but that's just me being picky. All in all I like em.

I like The Son of Horus's dudes, because they just look cool. I like the colours, and the rust. It gives them that diseased, worn down, wtf is soap look that can be hard to do if you don't know what you're doing. This man clearly does.

Dragblud da Skrunka's Orks look pretty solid. I like the use of many colours, because I've always imagined Orks kind of just finding their clothes laying around if they decided to wear any. (Good luck getting that mental image out of your head.) A closer, better looking pic could have got this entry up to first. I just keep wondering if this is like a girl that looks good from far away, but when she gets close she's atrocious. I know you've all met one before.

Edit: I didn't think to look at the entry thread for closer pics of the entries. I just looked at the ones posted on here, oops. Oh well, my vote has been cast. lol

1. Nefrugle
2. the son of horus
3. Daisyduke.

Well done guys and gals some great stuff this month, I think i need to step up my game!!!

Nefrugles nids are epitamy of what nids should seem. completely alien but with abit of nature mixed into the death pot that are nids, The talons play well against the armour with the arms and soft flesh looking... soft! Very nice.

Son of horus, some great nurgle marines, they looks slick with rotting armour and the colours plays that off well. Nice bases as well but they seem to float on the bases and there isn't a connecting aspect like a pool of bile or the odd rotting skull.

Daisydukes marines are very nice. The bright highlight finishes the models well and the variety and details are just so.

Well done everyone :D
Yeaah my pictures suck had so much Uni work I just tried to get one picture in. Ill post one up later even just for myself. Im chuffed and i think Its the best ones I've done so far. But crap pictures!

As always, lots of good entries Been away for the long weekend so it feels like I'm late with voting even though it's only the 5th!

1 - The Son of Horus - I like the colours you've achieved and the shading looks really nice. They look great as a unit

2 - Nefrugle - I like the scheme overall but feel the grey is a little flat and the carapace highlighting a little too... well... stretched for want of a better word. They do look really nice though and kind of make me wanna get round to painting up my raveners.

3 - Iron Angel - It's a little difficult to see from the pics but the highlighting on the metal looks really good and as something I've always had trouble with you get plus points for that :D
