assuming that everything is true, its clear this is a result of the IP courtcases and people like mantic offering cheaper low quality alternatives, two things stand out from that statment, protectable names for previously unprotectable races and moving to characters and protectable IP.

"Accuntants" great word.

This all makes me wonder how successful fantasy battle has been. It seems to me that the only way GW would make a move like this would be if the population of buyers/players was so low that the opportunity to start fresh with a whole new crop of players would be more profitable than continuing on with the existing players.
If that's the case, then the actuaries and the accuntants may have decided that it made more sense to scrap it. And further, if they started a new setting the old unprofitable setting would need to be cancelled otherwise it would simply continue to be a loss.

I don't know if the financials support that interpretation, but that's my guess.

Imagine if Warhammer 40K got dropped for Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit.

That is what is happening here.

I am intrigued/curious.

I am a little confused as to why GW felt the need to nuke the old setting, if this is actually true. Again, these are rumours, but most of the internet doesn't seem to doubt these so I guess I will sort of operate under the assumption that they're true. GW gives us no other option really with how tight lipped they are about upcoming releases (which I do NOT understand).

This arguably, does beat the alternative of them discontinuing WFB all together, I suppose. There is absolutely no reason our models can't at LEAST be used as "counts as", seeing as though enough people seem to do it with Avatars of War and Kromlech stuff, etc.

I guess my outlook is that, this is indeed better than nothing. I will remain optimistic til I see actual facts.

Not to mention, if they decided to weather WFB's unpopularity, then it could severely hurt GW, drag them down, and drive their prices up even further.

It wasn't the end of a story. Sure it was an ending for many, but for the survivors it was simply the beginning of a new chapter. They now live in a strange new world where the heroes of the Old World now stand side by side with their gods and the races are reformed under new belief systems.

Only instead of a platform treasure hunter puzzler game witha cute little dragon, bandicoot or blue hedgehog, you get a Gears of War clone. Now, while Gears of War may sound fun and attractive, those people who actually care about the game and supported it and likely bought into it because of its name are horrified that the game they have grown to love and read into its background is completely gone, and shares characters like some cross genre slash gay porn story sharing names only because it puts across a sense of false validity.
So yeah, this basically happened. I bought Dragon Age: Origins. I loved it, I played through it several times. I bought the DLC. I bought a LE Strategy Guide for the extra background info. I bought the prequel novels to better understand central characters.

Then I bought Dragon Age 2. It was a different game with a different game engine, different characters in a place that the first game had never even mentioned and yeah, it wasn't as good. Did I bitch and whine about how hard done by I was though? No, I enjoyed the game on it's own merits.

You mean when people stopped playing so they made the rules free to download and kept the models for sale for years afterwards?

Can you seriously say with a straight face that you were told to 'Fuck Off'? Or were you told that because the system isn't supported any more that they're not allowed to dedicate store game space towards it?

No evidence here. I would expect it to be supported about as much as Fantasy previously was. We'll see.

We don't know that the system has been canned. Many rumours have stated that 9th will have similar large scale games to previous editions. You're simply choosing to listen to whatever will piss you off and nothing else.

That'll show 'em. Calling people cunts always makes you right too.

Then I'd leave my Raven Guard on the shelves they spend their time on anyway, still having already enjoyed the time spent assembling and painting them. Wait for the new models for this new setting to come out, see which I like most and collect some of them instead.

You'll show me why you, a single person among however many thousand Fantasy players there are don't like the story. All just opinion and again, calling people cunts (albeit with so much more wit this time) doesn't make you right.

You see you army being made invalid based on rumours. While at the same time many other rumours (I'd say more) are saying that nothing will be invalidated. Why do you choose to believe the negative over the positive? Or at least suspend judgement until you have facts.

But they did, because they couldn't support both. This could be a real Hail Mary on GW's side. Fantasy was failing. I don't have figures but that seems to be the consensus. In time then I would assume that unchecked it would drag the whole company down. So it had to go. The choice then is whether to try something new or just leave it. If you're a fantasy fan, aren't you happy they're taking the risk?

Lets bot forget, GW is acclimating the the market. Warmahordes is big, and they're taking a failing system thats lost popularity, and modifying it to appeal to a style of game. Isn't that appealing to their market? Proving they have done market research.

Like I said, I agree with Asmodai, this isn't a sky isfalling/slight to the fanbase situation. GW is attempting to save their IP, appeal to the market, and draw in new players. All of those are GOOD things.

Asamodai;

So you must be one of thew few people who played that game and did't then. A huge number of people didn't and wouldn't have bought the game and were annoyed with the game as it was. This was notable as well with the swing back to a style similar to DAO in DAI. While I enjoyed bits of DA2, I found myself frustrated by the cut corners, shortcuts and other ridiculous decisions in design or gameplay compared to DAO. But hey, you're a saint and i'm just a common pleb pissed off that something i've sank literally tens of thousands of pounds into has been ripped away. Look at the hatred of cA's Rome 2 handling. The game that made CA getting remade, but a total pigsear?

Didn't think people stopped playing specialist games. Ah well.

No. I got to "look elsewhere to play 'Dropzone Commander' or whatver that is"

You think the lack of people talking about or playing the game at the time is indicative of motive? Yiu've already stated they did so earlier with Specialist games, so why not now?

In rehards to listening to what rumours I want to, I am reading both. I'm putting stock into what i've actually read and it is that aos is a new game style while 8th edition won't be removed. I have seen a rumour above saying 8th cannot be played. I originally called H/S on end Times, and then as the stories got more and more ridiculous, right up until Super Saiyan Sigmar I continued to, but the rumours all proved true. What few rumours we get I am more inclined to believe the more fucking retarded and illoigical they sound

As to insilting them, who cares about whether it is right or not that they've done it. I don't like it, and therefore I reserve the right to criticise people for their actions. I don't like the end times, I diwnright hate the changes in the setting, The peooke who encouraged and suppported and desired this change have got what they wanted. A copypaste of a generic fantasy skirmish background that shares little to no common ground between this and its previous iteration. It is like cricket writing new rules and instead playing water polo in the new rules.

congrats on being the bigger man than me though. You sure showed me how peacefully accepting change makes you the better man.

I speak among many. Get your head out of your arse and look elsehwere on the web for how peopke like it. Look at the people pissed off at squats, chaos dwarves, dogs of war. You don't here whinging like that on here, because they are leaving the game.

as to 'couldn't support both'; are you shitting me? They support 40k, Fantasy, FW, BL, and have the hobbit/lotr. You are telling me that GW have the faith that their product is so good it would be able to stand up their alongside the other two flagship systems like Horus Heresy is doing?

So much so that they gutted it so completely that everything from the setting to the core mechanics and gameplay elements share no similarity? Look at apple discontinuing the classic; in marketing speak/jargon they are saying 'i can get more profit out of this thing we have invested so much money in by removing access to this thing'.

Just because a thing wasn't commercially successful doesn't mean I didn't really like it as it was, and just because something's going to be commercially successful doesn't mean I'm going to like it.

I'm bummed out over Age of Sigmar not because of what it looks like it's going to add, but because of what it's going to remove.

Removing your USP to cater to a market for another game is retarded, especially considering that most Warmahordes players I've seen are ex-GW players who are butthurt that you can't play a cut-throat competitive tournament with a ruleset tighter than a virgin's bunghole with the GW games, despite GW saying time and again that they don't write a competitive ruleset.
