that's the point. you make an army based on the number of models. and that's it.

It is a real "run what you brung" type game now. Effectively you have whatever army you like, however, having a massive army means you are vulnerable to Sudden Death and also, if you take a long time to deploy, which you undoubtedly will, you will go second.
I can see where they are going with it, and the rules are refreshingly simple, and from what I can see there is nothing stopping people from organising their own games on an equal footing amongst each other. Pick up games would be interesting though, as would any tournament.
Theoretically, you could field hundreds of miniatures and be up against 20, and still lose (or utterly obliterate your opponent).
As regards to points, you could use the points system from 8th edition? Myself, I'm probably going to give it a go as it is, rather than keep old ideas from other GW games. It might work out.

Could also use the points costs from 8th edition army books and see how that goes. Obviously only for the stuff that translates.

My initial impressions regarding the lack of a points system is that it means that you can invest as much or as little cash as you like to play the game. One troop box and a hero and you're in. This could prove to be a huge draw for a lot of people. I know the reason I never took the plunge into WFB was the prohibitive cost in getting just one viable unit on the board.

Now, I'm thinking of finally picking up a box of ogres,a couple of those excellent maneaters and a firebelly. Job done.

That is exactly what I just did this week. I went and got a Wood Elf Captain, and a box of Rangers. Now all I need to do is hop over and get the Wood Elf PDF and I am playing the game. It has NEVER been this easy to pick up and play, honestly.

Pulled my Ogres out of the dusty cupboard and think I will try the Gutbuster Wartribe from the bottom of their War scroll to get me started in it. Can't decide whether to rebase them all not though.

I believe the most important thing is to release any preconceived notions of how you should set up and play a wargame with Age of Sigmar. As Khorne's Fist says you cantheoretically invest as much or as little into your army as you please and come up with different strategies using sudden death rules as well as ones in which you keep putting models down after your opponent has stopped and play the reverse. You create a collection of cool looking figures from a certain faction, race or alliance, and then go ahead and see how the deployment plays out as to what you want to play and how much you want to put on the board. Do you put on 20 Knights and bank on sudden death or put on a grand battalion of state troopers and swamp the enemy? It's a pretty fresh concept but I reckon it will take a lot of getting used to for some people.

Don't know what the rules are, but those things look amazing.
Wasn't a huge fan of Fantasy, but damn this is a box set that I want.

If that's the way they are going to go with the rules, than that is the best decision GW has made in a while.
More I look at this box set the more I think I'm getting it. Something to paint up for me and then play with my son or nephew. Seeing as they both want to play any game I'm interested in.

Still the painting is for me.

The kind of people who are willing to work with their opponent to create an entertaining, thematic battle are going to get huge enjoyment from this game more than any other I can think of.
