Default Nids vs. Dark Eldar

Just played my first game in over year. 4-way free for all between Chaos Space Marines, Dark Eldar, Blood Angels and my Nids. After losing a couple Hormagaunts to storm bolters and a battle cannon, the Dark Eldar Archon ripped through almost 40 Hormies before I stripped him of his invulnerable save. (I don't have the codex, so I can't say what it's called, but it was that piece of war gear that confers and 2++ until the save is failed) Anyway, is there a better way to deal with an Archon than throwing bodies at him? Can't say what else was in anyone's lists, but I had:

Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip, bonesword and devourer
2 Hiveguard
3 Warriors with 1 barbed strangler, 2 deathspitters and scything talons
2 units of 20 Hormagaunts with toxin sacs
25 Termagaunts
Trygon Prime with adrenal glands

throw as many low strength ranged attacks at him as you can, as his toughness 3 means he takes alot of saves. Only issue would cutting down the squad he's bound to have joined to protect him from exactly this. Keep throwing shots and you will get through.. Trust a GK player who has failed more 2+ saves than he'd care to admit

Edit: Combat wise, the best way I can think of would be a large genestealer squad with a Broodlord. Dark Eldar have next to zero psychic defence, so positioned correctly the Broodlord could stop the Archon from striking. after that, itd be a matter of again, forcing him to take saves

Cheers! I had to cut a lot of my shooting power to fit the points limit and then most of that had to be reserved to fit into the deployment zone. I haven't had much luck with Genestealers in the past, but I guess they're worth another try.

Aside from changing your army list, (take a Tervigon), I can't see much more to do.

What did he have? Obviously, Archon with Shadowfield is present. But what bodyguard did he have (2handed greatswords, aka Incubi?, or Splinter Rifles, aka Trueborn/Warriors? or Scanty Hand Weapon + Pistol, aka Wyches?)

If wyches, shoot them.
If Trueborn, shoot them.
If Incubi, shoot them, while running away.
if normal warriors, get them in close combat. Pure and simple.

I've been patiently waiting for a Tervigon model, but I think I need to face facts and just build my own. He had Wyches, I think they had power weapons and something called a Hydra Gauntlet? There were a couple Raiders with either warriors or trueborn and a venom, but most of those were either hit by a battle cannon early on or attacked the Chaos player, so I only had to deal with the Archon and Wyches.
I guess the Orks had the right idea: "Fight the shooty stuff, shoot the fighty stuff."

Have to agree on that one. Probably the simplest, best piece of advice I've ever read, lol
