Default crisis suits

Has anyone ever had success without using crisis suits or broadsides? I am thinking about starting a Tau list.

My list i have features heavily on suits but as long as you make sure you have somthing else to fill their role you can go without them.
I wouldent recomend going without suits or broadsides as they are your more relyable units and give you some much needed anti tank support, I never go to battle without them.

I would definately advise trying out Tau they have some pretty cool tricks and the suits are definately the best part about them.

Well I'm new to Tau as well and I'm trying to decide on XV8s or XV25s.

8's got more options but obviously cost more. 25's are more cookie cutter but cheaper and have stealth.

Every unit has their own strengths and weaknesses

Personaly I prefer hammerheads over broadsides as they look cooler (opinion) but the tanks are much weaker. I also prefer stealth to crisis but again they dont do as much damage (unless you are against low armour saves )

Hey there.

i have a 6k tau army and cant get enough.
In my experience i find that broadsides are more productive than hammer heads and tend to last longer.
I have never used a skyray yet and have had minimal success with seeker missiles (mostley cause they miss ) a 6 man stealth team is great for distracting your enemy for a turn or two but normaly wont last out the game.
a very rought list i tend to run with is something like this.

Shas'o + B/G armed with Pod/ burst cannon and multi track
Shas'el with tank busting wepons
xv8 team similar to hq
xv25 with targ array's, no fusion.
5 teams of fire warriors x 12
2/3 broadsides
pirahna with fusion

this tends to work well as it just gives you heaps of wepons to shoot.

dont underestimate the advantage of a 20 man Kroot squad either, just dont assault death company with them

not trying to be a tool but your suits cant have three wepons and you cant double up on vehicle equip ie Mark lights/ fusions etc.
you would need to give your F/W units a markerlight to use the skyrays and maybe change one skyray to a Hammer or broadside.
this type of list would be really good as a dynamic force.

Happy to hear feed back on my ideas too.

Two things.
The first, is anyone else going to have a markerlight to make use of the seeker missiles? Perhaps a squad or two of firewiarriors to boost output. (It's okay to just have them on the skyray but it limits their range).
Secondly your vehicules look very overpriced. Don't have my codex to hand but some of the upgrades are better than others.

I would even suggest substituting them for a Railhead and some broadsides.

quite a nice one suit only list
though give the suit a plasma not a fusion u wont get close enough to use the fusion

a few pointers
Sensor spines are the most pointless invention known to tau
get rid of them u have a disruption pod
its mre than good enough

i would just like to discuss the sky ray very quickly
its bad
really really bad
u fire two missiles a turn
3 turns its completely out
ok
leaves u with a strength 5 ap 5 heavy 4 which unless ur taking on nids or orks is not at all useful
a thought just floated across my mind could seeker missiles take out carniflexes hmmmmmmm
i know nothing on nids never played them is it possible?

strength 8 will not take out the front armour of many veichles
and heavy 1 means u can take out max 1 marine
pathetic
its painfully pathetic
really with it u can take out rhino's reliably
anything at front armour 12 or 13
and ur counting on the hammerheads
the worst thing is the opponent knows its bad and how good the hammerhead is
and will target all his anti tank on the hammerhead

btw can a devilfish take 12 men cos ur ethereal squad is too big if it cant

Back to the original question
personally i think u need suits
especially against marines
which is generally the most common army if u include csm sw black templars and dark angels in the marine category
stealths scare people and so they draw alot of fire but every time i use them i see 200 points float away in a hail of enemy bullets after 1 shooting phase
i honestly believe from expreience that crisis are the way to go
and broadsides are essential
come on a twin linked bs4 strenght 10 ap 1
u have to love it
