Default Death Company w/Boltguns

I have recently been reading up on Death Company tactics and I have noticed that most people seem to use their DC as what are essentially Tactical Marines. I don't see the point in this as Furious Charge is much more beneficial for CC DC. Am I wrong in thinking that boltguns are a waste of time with DC? In my personal case, my army has a lot of points left over before factoring in a DC so I can afford JPs and Power Weapons easily, are boltguns just used for DC on a budget?

I once used DC as a distraction unit they are good at acting as a shooting diversion with just boltguns and are cheaper so meaning you aren't losing more of your army

Matt Ward declared death pit on the Eldar god Khaine. To celebrate his victory he held the most awesome party ever and all the Eldar were invited. The intense pleasure from the orgy with him spawned Slannesh, created the Eye of Terror and destroyed the Eldar empire. Their last words were, "worth it."
So spread the word, and beware of Matt Ward for he can Death Pit at any time.

Good point, I might use them as a distraction in the future but at the moment I can't because my DC is about 1/4 of my models and I need all of my models to play at full strength to have a chance at winning.

They're Relentless, so it boils down to which would you rather have; 1/2 shots, always hitting on 3s, at Str 4 and AP5 from 24"/12" away respectively, or 1 of the above and 1 attack, hitting on 3s or 4s, at Str 4 (although Str 5 on the charge) that you have to charge into combat for?

I don't find it a waste. I suppose it depends on your function and target for your death company. When I field them I take a power-weapon or two and the rest have boltguns. Usually 4 attacks on the charge with 6 to 7 death company (I also usually have a reclusiarch as well) is enough to win a combat, perhaps not utterly wipe out the squad but its enough.

And although you can't count on it, if people forget that they are relentless then they do not expect to be both rapid fired and charged.

Depends on your build - I don't think boltguns are a waste on DC, but they are definitely not a must.

I mix my dudes. Power weapon? You sir, get a bolt pistol. Chainsword? Bolter. If I have a 5 man DC it's 3:2 (bolter:bolt pistol/PW).

Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.
