Default The Return of the Blob?

With Overwatch will we see a re-emergence of the 20+ model blob squad being a viable tactic? Or will multi-assault negate it? I'm wondering how well a squad of 20 Sisters of Battle would do marching up the board? Or would a couple shots from Necron flyers and Tanks easily wipe it out. 10 girls in a Rhino doesn't seem as survivable now.

Open terrain rarrrh charges are a bad idea for both blobs and mech now I think, the game has become a lot more thinking required for movement and unit placement

the benefits of blob squads in fifth edition were that they put out a large volume of fire, and were hard to kill in one round of combat, making for good tarpits. sixth edition hasn't changed this much. sure, overwatch and being able to move and fire 24inches, has increased their threat range and volume of fire, and challenges let them tarpit characters for longer than usual, but the core problems of blobs remain. they are slow and they are vulnerable.
overall, they may see more use, but we'll have to wait and see.

I don't see the Death Ray as a viable way to murder a whole squad, though it could be used to snipe Characters.

I don't think only running 20 Sister Blobs will be effective on their own, but running one with the support of two 10 Sister Squads in Rhinos might do the trick.

If we could take vehicles that the units couldn't fit inside of, I'd say running squads as 20 Sisters and bring Multi-Melta Immolators (or the Heavy Bolter option if you plan to move 12" a lot) as basically gun trucks in support of the blobs would be awesome, but that only works if GW FAQs it that way.

I'm curious now, where is the rule that says a unit must fit or start in their dedicated transport. I haven't read that part of the 6th ed rules yet.

Not that I'm aware of, but with GW rules it's usually a "no" unless something says "yes" (like the Space Marine FAQ).

Gotcha. I think it usually says though something like "if the squad number x or less it may take".... but all the SoB dex says is "The Squad can select any dedicated transport (see page x)." Nothing about size limitation.

Hm...you're right. I guess you could probably do it.

IG - yes definitely. Tbh survivability was poor per guardsman regardless of whether they are boxed or in a huge blob, so the huge rapid fire buff will make them more effective on the march, and they're so cheap its not really a big sink to do so.

SoB - it depends on how much of a point sink they are - if its a large component of your list, then i would say no, but if the 20sisters are a small part of your list, then maybe - and you can always split them into two separate squads if you think they are too vulnerable. High value blobs (like 20 CSM or 20 sisters), will get a high target priority because they're hard to stop, so they will draw lots of fire, which is not ideal if you're wanting the blob to be VERY effective beyond acting as a sponge.
