well there is a problem with that 2... fast vehicles go 18... that means you can never actually make the save unless you have I6 and roll 2 6es.

Besides dont you think that its a bit overpowered to get all those hits or even wounds out of a simple rush towards a squad (compared to d6 hits for 20 points in the case of a deffrolla)?
I'd be ok with up to 3 or 4 wounds especcially if your not incresing the vehicles value's.

Assuming they move flat out they should be difficult to avoid completely.

However your point is valid, so maybe it should be on velocity not speed; you have to equal or better the distance travelled from the last turn or impact (hitting a unit will slow you down enough that ramming the entire army in a long line would not work)

Possibly making it hits rather than wounds, and linking in a proportional value for the front AV as strength (to represent drivers of heavy tanks ramming happily and less heavy tanks caring about the potential for crumpling something).

I'm trying to recall the "smushing" rules from back in the days of each vehicle having a cardstock "datafax" (2nd edition? They all tend to blur together at MY age). I DO recall that each additional model "smushed" increased the chance of damage to the "smushing" tank; Gear gets lodged in the treads, Marine powerpacks explode, ammo/grenades go off, etc. So you COULD mow down a whole mob of Orks, but the chances were that you'd krump yourself in the process....

Anyone else remember more details?

I remember something along those lines and agreed which edition *shrug*. Speed would definitely have to be a factor as a fast moving Wave Serpent would be impossible to avoid, whereas a lumbering Leman Russ could be heard a mile away coming. The only problem is anything fast moving or a fast moving skimmer could then spam the entire board killing units by simply running them over. The idea that the unit moves out of the way, but if they fail their I test then the recieve the difference in wounds would equal out a lot better, that way giant units of Orks aren't getting squished by a single Falcon. There would definitely need to be a rule about vehicles receiving some sort of damage if taking on a large unit or a large object. Maybe saying if the unit suffers over a certain amount of wounds than the vehicle must roll a D3 counting a 3 as a 4 result on the Damage with no modifiers.
