Default Hurricane Bolters

I know this is kind of twisting the ruling a little, but I'd like your thoughts on the matter.

BRB on pg. 58 under the Defensive Weapons ruling, "Any vehicle weapon of Strength 4 or less(or with no Strength value) are classified as 'defensive' weapons."

So, for all intents and purposes, a LR Crusader, Stormraven, or anything else with Hurricane Bolters can move at Cruising Speed and still fire Hurricane Bolters, as they are a S4 weapon, therefore, as stated by the BRB, are Defensive Weapons.

What is the general consensus? Again, I know this is kind of cheesing and using a loophole in the rule, but what are your thoughts?

That's totally fine. It's not really cheesy, that's what they're for.

I'd think it would be cheesy because at Rapid Fire range, a LRC can, while moving at full speed, unleash 12 TL bolter shots and Pintle SB(if taken over MM) and still fire it's Assault Cannon or Pintle MM(if taken over SB).

That is ALOT of fire coming from a vehicle moving at full speed. And with PotMS, can shoot it's Bolters at troops and use the Pintle MM to pop a tank..again, while moving full speed.

Seems a little cheesy to me..but hey. I'm not gonna complain, because I use the LR Crusader with MM. :D

I Think that it's fair enough. Defensive weapons appears to basically mean that they're purely anti-Infantry.

Blueberry coffee tastes as good as it sounds.

Ok. Any more thoughts on it? I just don't want to have to listen to people crying cheese and saying I am using an unintended loophole in a rule because the "Hurricanes are meant as offensive weapons."

It's the entire point in the crusader. It's an awesome thing to use.

All of this has happened before.

hmm from the way i am reading it no you can't on page 58 it says:

"vehicles that moved at combat speed may fire a single weapon (and defensive weapons, as explained below)"

"Vehicles that move at cruising speed may not fire"

Under defensive weapons it says:

"Any vehicle weapons of strength 4 or less (or with no strength value) are classified as defensive weapons"

"A vehicle that moved at combat speed can fire all of its defensive weapons in addition to the single weapon it is usually allowed to fire"

so basically you cannot fire any weapons when moving at cruising speed except 1 weapon with POTMS ofc,
you can move at combat speed and fire a single weapon as normal and all defensive weapons and an extra shot (if you have enough weapons) with POTMS

i can't see anywhere where it allows you to fire defensive weapons when moving at cruising speed

It can only move at Combat speed (6" a turn) and still do that. Read up on defensive weapons. So it moves 6", it can fire it's hurricane bolters, it's MM and it's assault cannon (defensive weapons, +1 main weapon, +1 PotMS).

If it moves at 12", it can fire one weapons (thanks to PotMS).

The Stormraven though, can move 12" and fire it's hurricane bolters in addition to whatever else you normally can. Storm raven though is a very different sort of unit, and you can debate it's merits if you want.

Hope that helps

Another point to help you see what me and maddermax mean is to look at the table at the bottom of page 73 in the BRB it tells you what weapons you can fire after you have moved

Edit: Snooze you lose Maddermax
