Depends on where you are and who you game with. At tourneys it is a big deal but with friends it shouldn't really matter at all.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Conversions, conversions! You could represent the twin-linked missile launcher by a big targeting lens or something where the second weapon would be. You just have to explain to your opponent what you've got. I try to hold myself to a tournament-standard wysiwyg and tournament-standard of painting (i.e. I don't use unpainted models) but I obviously can't hold anyone else to that standard since I'd hardly ever get to play if I did.

Battlewagon bits (linked in the shopping thread) is your friend. Buy that second ML

It boils down to this: If youlve paid the points for it, it HAS to be on the model

It's a one-way street though. Just because you have it on a model doesn't nessecarily mean it needs to be on his sheet

Grenades and skills seemt to be the exception/gray area in the WYSIWYG rules. Some people will argue that everythign needs to be there, other people cite a rule form an older edition (I believe) that says grenades ad small stuff need not be reresented(hell, a 5 man assault squad sprue only comes with three meltabombs)

Most people will go for a compromise. If someone (preferably someone wihtout access to wargear) in a squad has an 'everybody must take' upgrade like grenades, modeled on the mini then you can assume the whole squad has them.

In any event, whether the model has things on it that aren't paid for, or if you're in a friendly game where WYSIWYG isn't a huge priority, or you have skills or other unmodeled things, ALWAYS INFORM YOUR OPPONENT

Generally, things that the squad can have as a whole just needed to be represented on the majority of the models. For example, the three meltabombs on the assault sprue. Three of five is the majority. For meltabombs, I only model one or two in the squad with them, because you have to figure that's pretty specialized equipment (not to mention I never actually take it, so it's not really an issue anyway) so you wouldn't arm an entire squad with that sort of thing.

As a general rule, even when everything is WYSIWYG, it's good to let your opponent know what you've got on each model if there's even a negligable possibility that it could be mistaken for something else (i.e. frag grenades and krak grenades look a lot alike when you're not looking closely at the model.)

Heh, then my firewarriors would throw you for a loop as they all have grenades on the model but have never actually had them in game. I just like the way they look . However, you are absolutely right about INFORMING the opponent. So long as you do so, there really shouldn't be a problem, especially in friendly games.

Same here. Thats why I said that if you have somethign on a model that doesn;t exist on paper, you should tell the other guy

My personal preference? Tell the guy, as usual, but I put little strips of paper on unusual models with what they are written on them, so neither player forgets.

Short awnsers is it stands for What You See Is What You get meaning if it shows something IE a flamer it is what your model uses.

Depends on the game. Sometimes a LEGO mechanic on a base is an acceptable proxy for a techpriest. Other times Cadian snipers models can't count as Ratlings. (Despite snipers being snipers)
