Default Khorne bikers and Melta/Plasma/Flamers

Khorne bikers should be able to replace the bike mounted weapons with melta/plasma guns. Now before anyone gets all insane about it read on.

Pathwinder got me thinking about this in his World Eaters Tactica in the Tactics forum so I was looking at my codex and my faq while tinkering with the chaos armylist and I think PW may be right. In the codex, pg33, up to two bikers may replace their twinlinked bolters with a melta/plasmagun/flamer for a set amount of points. In the Book of Khorne pg 47, under Weaponry of... it says:

"models in power armour cannot upgrade their ranged weaponry other than to replace a bolt pistol with a plasma pistol at the normal cost"

Note the description 'models in power armour' above. Bikes are not models in power armour. Upgrading the bike weapons IS NOT upgrading the weapons of the model in power armour. Also, the above quote refers to pistols which are not part of the bikes armament but rather, they are the weapons of the marines themselves. Added to that is the fact that they don't actually HAVE any weapons beyond a CCW, so upgrading to more than a pistol on the marine is not the issue here.

So it seems to me that Khorne bikers can take these bike mounted weapons. It may not have been possible at one time but with the current codex/faq, it looks like it is now.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Heh, further study into this brings it crashing down. Pg 6 of the main rulebook says:

Vehicle Models
3rd sentence

small vehicles are dealt with as an extension of the rider.

Therefore not separate from the Khorne riders and as such, cannot take bike upgrades.

Yeah I was going to respond to the comment Pathwinder made but got distracted. Khorne bikers cannot have meltaguns or plasma guns. They're still regarded as following the power armour wearing restrictions of Khorne.

On a side note and a little offtopic I think plasma pistols should be cheaper for Khorne Berserkers since they get to fire them less. As it stands they're not cost effective and so none of my 27 Berzerkers are armed with a ranged weapon other than a Bolt Pistol.

My brother keeps a plasma pistol in every squad, just so he has something to plink at tanks with if he has to. Otherwise they end up chasing after my devilfish all day.

Crap. You mean I'm wrong after all? Oh well.

I max out my plasma pistols in my WE army. They have no real tank punch, so I make sure every squad has that option.

Plasma gives you some options against tough things for your squad. That's about the only reason to take it.

Well pw if you would put a fist into your squads, you would always have tankn punch...... for 5 points more, a Power Fist takes away the need for all those pistols that are useless every time you rage......

World Eaters actually tend to benefit from having a Greater Daemon running around, too. While normally a Bloodthirster is a huge points sink that won't cover its cost effectively, if you use it purely to go kick over someone's Land Raider, it'll do fine. It's a monstrous creature with wings. Why not?

Be sure you've got a fist on every single champion. Yes, the Axe of Khorne is very cool, but Berserkers move fast enough that you should be able to deal with most tanks.
