Firing into close-combat

If you're playing a game with more than two players and no allies, can you fire into a close-combat that includes none of your own units? Or can you only damage those troops by entering into the close combat with them?

I'm fairly sure you can't, although don't quote me on it. However, feel free to create house rule concerning it for your gaming group, and post it up here for the benefit of all of us who may want such a rule

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to, as what's better than firing into the enemy? Firing into two enemies that are busy butchering each other.

I don't think there's a rule though, so you may have to make a homebrew.

Since the rules are only written for 1v1 or team v team there really is no rule for this. I would personally make a house rule for whatever you think is fair.

To be honest, never thought of having a free for all, the odd player may get teamed up on, but hey, its all for the fun!

Seeing as I've never heard of a tournament having this type of game, you'll only be using the rule during a friendly game, and in that case, ya houserule it. I know its a game, but were aiming(pun intended) for realism right?

I'm sure GW did a Battle rep once which was four v's four, and I think they did something on those lines, think hits where randomized to either side, then wounds rolled.

Technically it is not allowed by the rules. It says in no circumstance can you fire into a Close Combat.

Practically speaking I say why not? If none of your units are involved and there's no chance of hitting your own guys go for it. In reality a soldier would take advantage of such a juicy opportunity so I think you should be able to in 40K. Of course it would be a good thing to come to this agreement with your opponents before the game begins.

I totlay agree with the above statment. i guess the 40k universe is to large for GW to have all the answers and if everyone agrees then you should be allowed. lets say you roll to hit and each race gets half of the casulites or d2 the results. 1,2,3 its player X4,5,6 and its player Y.

Aye thats pretty much what I think GW did, made up some temp rules for a lone Bat rep and it seemed to work fine, sounds lots of fun as well.
