Default Tau Interceptor rule?

So my friend plays Tau and his favorite new thing to do is throw this special rule down. From my point of view a unit that can elect to shoot a unit coming in on the table with a large blast strength 9 ap1-2 is over powered to the extream. From my point of view his rule book says while arriving from deep strike he can chose to shoot them. I play as tyrinids and I use the burrow quite a bit and he kills what ever i bring up casue he uses that special rule. How do people use this rule? are we doing something wrong or is it really that good

Unfortunately, it really is that good--I've been on the receiving end of a riptide throwing a large blast on a squad of 20 daemonettes that had just Deep Striked (Deep Struck?) in and hitting all of them--ow. Do bear in mind that the model that uses Interceptor can't use that weapon in their next shooting phase, but apart from that, it's a quite powerful rule. They even get to shoot before you have the chance to run and spread out (though the rumors for 7th edition say that moving and running will both be part of the movement phase, so that might change in the near future).

So my nids can be hit with this? I come from the mindset that its different when arriving from the ground. just sucks being nids agaisnt tau when you have to take 3 turns to get to him and kills everything, then the few uits that pop up get outright killed... seems like i really cant do to much

Yes, he's doing it right, but his Large Blast has Gets Hot! and does not ignore Cover or Line of Sight, so it's far from the be-all and end-all.

Sounds like you need to bring some more line of sight blocking terrain to the table
