Default Why no shooting at Close Combat Engagments?

Orks would not care if the limbs flying is pink, blue or green. Shooting into cc is on my wishlist for next dex. All misses are rerolled and new hits counts towards friendly models.

Good to be green

not being able to fire into CC is a really basic and long-standing rule in 40k. in the end, if you couldn't handle nids with guard, that's your fault not the rules

If you play a wholly rules based game, then you can't shoot into a combat - blue on blue friendly fire etc but if you tweek things for a larf, then KILL 'EM, KILL 'EM ALL! There are plenty of examples of shooting into close combat to clear it away - For example the Royal Artillery firing into the melee involving the Guards brigade at Guilford Courthouse 1780(?) or the Russian Grand battery clearing the skirmishers of both sides Borodino 1812.
NIDs wouldn't care, they'd just do. As for Astra Militarum, then how about they take a Ld test - Remember to use Commissars for more fun dice rolls. Fit your game with the fluff and let your dice tell the story, above all have fun playing!
I could fill this up with battle anecdotes of games won, drawn or lost and how me and Abe Simpson used to walk around with onions on our belts....

Guess you missed the part where this was a venting post...I know rules are rules but I questioned the reasoning behind it, that's all.

Eh I wouldn't take it personally, "you're not doing it right" is probably one of the most common phrases found on 40k forums.

All I can think about is trying to kill this without using a gun at close range...

Or use the famed Inquisitor Karamazov. He fires into combat.

And yet, once upon a time, we were allowed to shoot into close combat, randomize the hits between the units involved, etc etc. As an IG player myself, it irks me that a single solitary guardsman surrounded by a horde of genestealers or some other armies close combat specialists prevents me from firing at the enemy even tho we all KNOW that the guardsman is deader than last weeks doorknob. I would love to see them bring this back. But until they do.................

Maybe they could bring in a "Mercy" rule where if it is somehow determined that the fate of 1 or 2 units is sealed that you can fire into the action a bit early? This would hit the friendlies and the baddies.
