Default New Space Marine AA tank rules?

Ok I am very new to the 40K gaming world but I have been painting for many years. I have recently started collecting my own space marine army and stopped commission work while i create my own list.

I've picked up the new 6th edition rule book and new space marine codex and read a lot of forums stating how anti air needed in a list these days.

The new AA tanks caught my eye to fill this role but the one thing I have been searching for, for days is weather or not the AA tank is pure AA or can they be used to fire at ground units?

I dont want to waste points on anti air if they have one flying/skimming unit

Please help a n00b understand the rules a bit better

If it only has the skyfire rule (which i think includes the hunter & stalker) then it may only use it's full BS against flying/skimming units. It can still fire at ground units, but only as snap shots.

Units that have the skyfire and interceptor rules can fire at full BS at all units.

I haven't had a chance to try either of them out (I might try a proxy hunter soon) but i think if the enemy is taking even 1 flyer the points cost is worth going for, they are pretty cheap.

Proxying is a good idea, i'll have to keep and eye on ebay or bitz box and buy a interchangeable turret for my razorback

are there any other viable option for anti air, I've heard stormtalons are good (i know I'm going off topic now and venturing into other threads, sorry)

The Aegis gun line still seems to be the most popular AA. A stormraven seems good, but it's expensive.

I played my new stormtalon last week and it took a hull point off a Helldrake and nothing more - my rolls were pretty lousy though, so it could have done a lot better. The stormtalon is way more effective against light tanks and infantry so it's worth taking, just maybe with a back up AA.

It all depends on what level of air support your opponent is bringing. A safe bet would be a Hunter and an ADL w/whichever gun you like. Stormravens are awesome at AA, but really more in a 1v1 match than one SR vs. multiple fliers. The key thing is that the SR has to come in from reserve while the AA tank and ADL are present T1. If you facing one flier, any single one of these things will suffice. More than one and I would suggest any two of these things.

Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.

Quite a few armies have skimmers, too: Tau and Eldar especially come to mind, being (relatively) new shiny codexes played by a bunch of people.

CSM Plog, Tactica

What sphinx of plascrete and adamantium bashed open their skulls and ate up their brains and imagination? Imperator! Imperator!

Necrons as well. Not to mention any army whose fliers also have the Hover rule (I'm looking at you, Heldrake).
