Default Fire Control and Split Fire

Hi there, my brother went to a tournament a week ago and someone told him that long fangs may select to split fire with one model only. But as we are looking for it fire control is different from split fire or? its only a codex rule from then i think that it stays like it comes on it. Can you certify this? thanks.

Long Fangs have "Fire Control" not Split Fire from what I can see, (nothing in the FAQ ?)

The Codex rule says quite clearly all you have to do is declare who is firing at what, with no restriction.

Split Fire does only allow one model to shoot a different target.

same could be said about the whole Snapshot BS modifiers,

GW brought out a FAQ that stats nothing can modify the BS of snap fire shots, no special abilities etc, but when you read the tau codex it states that you can choose to up the bs when firing snapshots.

BRB FAQ:
Q: Can the BS1 of a Snap Shot ever be modified by special rules that
modify the BS of a modelís Shooting attack (such as Space Marine
Signums or Sergeant Telionís Voice of Experience)? (p13)
A: No.

Last time I checked it went FAQ>Codex>BRB

Sooo it would appear that until they update the Tau FAQ, they can't actually increase snap shots.

Not sure how that applies to this situation. What we are talking about here is a guy being told that a Special Rule from the Codex of a particular unit doesn't apply but a special rule from the rule book, which the unit doesn't have, does apply.

As for the Markerlights the Codex says conclusively that they can be used in Overwatch and Snap Shots.

The general case is that BS mods do not apply but it's a given that a special rule will over ride that.

This is where it applys, even if a special rule sounds the same, the codex written rule will trump it.

Fire Control is a special rule in the Space Wolves Codex that states the Long Fangs may split their fire, not that they have Split Fire. There are a couple of key differences between these rules:

1. Split Fire requires a Leadership Test, Fire Control does not.
2. Fire Control can only be done if the Squad Leader is alive and does not shoot, Split Fire can be done as long as one model in the unit has that special rule.
3. Split Fire can only be done by 1 model in the unit, Fire Control can be done by any number of models in the unit; you just specify who is shooting at what before dice are rolled to hit.

In essence, the person your brother talked to at the Tournament was mistaken.
